Dominica’s ‘Princess of Song’, Michele Henderson will be honoured at this year’s Jazz & Cocktail event organized by Alliance Française de la Dominique.
The event will take place on May 3, from 6:30p.m, two days ahead of this year’s Jazz N’ Creole Festival.
“We are happy to announce that we will be honoring Michele Henderson,” Representative at Alliance Française de la Dominique Charlene White-Christian said. “Last year we had a tribute to Ophelia Marie, the very first year we had a tribute to Nelly Star and this year we are having a special tribute, Michele Henderson.”
According to White-Christian, female artistes should be recognized to an equal degree as male artists.
“Some persons might ask why it is always a female, but we believe that our female artistes should always be highlighted as much as our male artistes,” she stated. “So, Alliance Française has taken this as our mandate to highlight our female artistes who have made their mark in our Dominican music industry.”
To pay tribute to Michele Henderson will be Maxine, AbiYah Yisrael, Tasha P, Shalina, Carlyn XP, Li-Li Octave, Marie Pascale, and Dhar’Gelle.
They will be joined by the UMOJA Convent High School Sign Language Club, DJ Snow, and DJ Sleem.
An award well deserved .
As ‘Dominica’s unknown superstar’, to the very wide global stage world, even though she is well known regionally.
The marketing, or lack there of, of such a tremendous talent, leaves a lot to be desired.
Keep on shining , keep reaching for the stars cuz . The world awaits you.
Honoring Michele locally, for her contribution to our music, is a wonderful gesture. I have always referred to her as ‘Dominica’s unknown superstar’, as even though she is well known regionally, she is relatively unknown on the global stage. The marketing, or lack there of, of such a tremendous talent, leaves a lot to be desired.
Keep up the good work, my sister, as the world awaits you.
One love. 🇩🇲🇩🇲🇩🇲
Just look up her handler(s), not very savvy at all, that explains it.
One’s gender should not be a factor for receiving recognition. To me # 1 is the songwriting and the musicianship. Having some money and good marketing and representation is important. There are 1000s of amazing artists out there but not all of them get the audience that they deserve because of lack of visibility and sometimes where they live. “Nashville cats, they’s cool as country water.” It doesn’t hurt to be good looking either or at least unique in appearance or dress.
They should at the very least have a ‘hit’ song or a song that’s recognizable though.
