The Duke of Edingburgh’s Caribbean Canada Leaders Dialogue 2025 (CCLD 2025), an educational leadership initiative, will convene from May 22 to June 1.  According to a press release by the organization, this cross-sector experiential leadership development program aims to bring together 100 participants from both  Canada and the Caribbean region.

Rianna Patterson has been selected as country host for Dominica.

“CCLD 2025 is built on the legacy of the proven Duke of Edinburgh’s Commonwealth Study Conference protocol. Sixty-eight years since its inception, the concept delivers,” remarked Patterson.

CCLD 2025 will operate under the central theme of “Impact-Driven Leadership: Creating Positive Change in Our Communities.” The program will delve into six sub-themes: diversity and inclusion, sustainability and innovation, ethics, impact, collaboration, and advocacy.

The event will commence with an opening plenary session in Toronto, Ontario. All participants will have the opportunity to engage with leaders representing government, industry, education, and civil society.

Following the opening plenary, participants will be divided into seven groups of 14, along with one group of 16, with each group maintaining sector balance. Each group will travel to a different Caribbean nation to explore one of the six sub-themes, with the seventh group focusing on the overarching conference theme. The tour destinations apart from Dominica include The Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, Grenada, Guyana, and Jamaica.

The participants, selected from diverse backgrounds across Canada and the Caribbean, will engage in interactive, peer-to-peer learning experiences. These experiences are designed to stimulate dialogue on complex, real-time issues, with the goal of enhancing the quality and relevance of their decision-making.

Learning will occur through site visits and, importantly, through interaction with fellow participants. Field visits and reports will require unanimous support from the team members involved. Participants from different sectors will collaborate to advocate for their perspectives, promoting richer dialogue and more informed understanding.

The program will culminate in a closing plenary session in Barbados. At this session, the groups will present their ideas, concepts, and solutions to a panel for further discussion and exploration.

Applications are being accepted from individuals in Dominica as well as Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Aruba, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Haiti, Montserrat, Netherlands Antilles, Puerto Rico, St. Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks and Caicos and the United States Virgin Islands as well as from all Canadian provinces and territories.

Through engagement across business, government, labor, education, and civil society, the dialogues aim to foster competencies and connections that support Canada, the Caribbean, and the broader Commonwealth community.

Rianna Patterson expressed her confidence in the process, saying, “Commonwealth dialogues highlight what is possible when sectors come together.”
