The Dominica Football Association (DFA) shared that the national women’s team, known as the Sisserou Girls, will face Jamaica in a CONCACAF Women’s Qualifier scheduled for Saturday, November 29. A DFA release said that the match will kick off at 3 PM and take place at the Daren Sammy Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet, St. Lucia.

According to the DFA, this fixture marks an important step in Dominica’s efforts to advance women’s football regionally and to increase the country’s visibility on the international sports stage.

“We are proud of the work, discipline, and resilience of our women,” stated Head Coach Ronnie Gustave. “This team has been training hard. Showing a lot of heart, and they are ready to represent Dominica.”

Recently, the team competed in the WIFA Tournament held in St. Vincent. Although they did not secure a medal, Coach Gustave noted that the tournament served as a valuable opportunity to evaluate the squad’s strengths and identify areas for improvement.

“Our focus has been discipline, structure, and simply the basics and fundamentals. This is a major test for us against a regional powerhouse, but our women are ready to give their all for Dominica. And as we saw recently in Curacao’s qualifier in the men’s, anything is possible and small islands can do big things. The players have worked hard, and we are ready,” he continued.

During the team’s recent intensive training sessions, which included two-a-day practices, several overseas-based players—Jewel Harve, Trinity Esprit, Chloe Lecointe, Eden Lander, Starr Humphreys, and LeMyah Forde—joined the squad.

The time has come when we must put more resources making the young women great. During my early school days, women were relegated to netball where they represented Dominica very well. Cricket, football, and basketball were the boys and men sport. The time for mediocrity is long gone. Women are excelling in all sport given the chance. Give the girls the training that they can compete in the world arena.
Training women to be coaches is of great importance. I never thought I would have seen the day when women sports would be filling stadiums all over the world. I look forward for the day that softball and baseball be introduced in the curriculum of our schools and colleges. What happen to tennis? Is it still a rich man’s sport in Dominica? I am not sure you will publish this but it is the truth.
