The Dominica Solid Waste Management Corporation (DSWMC) has announced a significant upgrade to the country’s waste management infrastructure. In a press release, the DSWMC said that four brand-new compactor trucks were delivered to the Corporation at the end of October. This addition to the fleet represents a pivotal development in enhancing solid waste collection services across the island, stated the organization.
This investment directly addresses what it describes as previous operational challenges faced by the DSWMC in maintaining consistent and timely waste collection schedules. The new high-capacity vehicles are expected to substantially increase the Corporation’s efficiency in managing the growing volume of waste generated by households and commercial entities. By strengthening logistical capacity, the initiative aims to translate this into “a healthier, and
more visually appealing environment for all citizens is not just an aspiration but a tangible reality.”
The DSWMC also expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit and the government for “prioritizing the waste management sector and delivering on this commitment made at the 2025/2026 national budget address.”
As outlined in the press statement, preparations are underway for a formal handing-over ceremony, during which the new compactor trucks will be officially commissioned into service. Details regarding the event will be shared with the public in the near future.
The DSWMC also stated that it encourages citizens and communities to continue their efforts in source sorting and proper containerization of waste and recyclables, as the new resources are integrated into the island’s waste management system.
Thats good because i see rubbish piling up again all over . To the truck drivers the rubbish truck is not a car, drive carefully..
they say is new. but I watch them thing and they already have rust growing on them
who they trying to fool with there new trucks nonesense there nuh
Skerrit does not need credit from you,you did not put Skerrit where he is,you are a LOSER and a failure, you are too blind and ignorant to see and know that.In the US when you are told a day for plastics you put plastics,a day for paper you put paper,a day for cans you put cans. You and people like you are slaves in a foreign land. You cannot talk to me because I paid taxes in the USA to keep you surviving on food stamps and soup kitchen.A lot of all you cannot go back to Dominica, because all you broke and poor like a church rat.S.ome of all you spend all all you time living on cheap Chinese chicken wings and fried riceIn Dominica you put what you want when you want where you want and you Ibo encourage that foolishness because you are jealous of a poor man who holds the position of Prime Minister. That, you and your blue crooks, traitors and backstabbers cannot stop.Dominicans don’t depend on soup kitchen and foodstamps to live.

There we go again. The government is supposed to be funding the solid waste corporation through the environmental surcharge. Is this being done? This is in the law and should be the main means of income for the corporation. Stop this nonsense of trying to fool people. Bon!
We need to enlarged the roads so that the trucks can be of greater service to the country at large, Dominica’s population is increasing. As a result, there will be more waste to be disposed off. Gone are the days when you had a few men or women with coconut brooms sweeping the town.
I also hope that Dominicans, as well as, all visitor take pride in keeping the place clean.
Do we have the facilities to service those vehicles? I hope we do not have to depend on technicians from the other Caribbean islands to come to Dominica to take care of these vehicles.
The last time I was home Public Works was in ruining. We need a much advanced technical school or college on the island to take care of the new creation of AI. We also need to know that the international airport will soon be part of our every day lives,
Good, but unlike the management of the DSWMC, I stoutly refuse to give Roosevelt any credit for procuring a few garbage trucks which should have been done years earlier.Citizens came down with rear diseases as their garbage went uncollected for many months.
His sycophants now see it fit to laud him with a standing ovation. Ridiculous! Such an important service should have never been allowed to fall into such a horrid and obnoxious state. He caused the fire so he cannot get any praise for extinguishing it.
My hope is tat these vehicles will be properly maintained so the citizens will not be subjected to such pungent odours, large infestation of insects and rodents, and
unsightly heaps of garbage everywhere.
Hope they are serviced on time and the drivers take good care when driving the trucks. There are some really reckless solid waste drivers.
