DOMLEC customers should expect an increase in rates this month, says company’s CFO

Customers of the Dominica Electricity Services (DOMLEC)  will experience an increase in their electricity effective this month.

This was according to Chief Financial Officer Clyde Edwards.

“DOMLEC [bills] customers based on classes. We have five main classes, being domestic, commercial, industrial, [and] hotel,” he said. “So the bill is based on customers’ usage per kilowatt hour and the rates vary between domestic having the lower rate as expected.”

According to him, the commercial, hotel, and rates industrial are slightly higher.

Edwards explained that the fuel surcharge is computed based on the fuel that is used.

“When the IRC is looking at the cost per kilowatt hour to the customer, they look at all our expenses that qualify,” he explained. “However, they do not consider fuel because fuel fluctuates. So the fuel cost is treated as a separate item”

Edwards explained further that 95 percent of the monthly fuel cost is collected via the fuel surcharge mechanism.

“DOMLEC traditionally absorbs 2.5 percent of that fuel cost as part of its operating expenditure,” he stated.”

He advised customers that the Independent Regulatory Commission (IRC) has approved 100 percent pass-through of the company fuel cost to the customer.

He continued, “So customers will experience an increase in their fuel surcharge of less than 2 cents per kilowatt hour effective from the October billing.”

If an increase of less than 2 cents per kilowatt causes that much grief on someone’s budget, this simply means that this individual was already under water way before the increase.

Hot debate. What do you think? Thumb up 3 Thumb down 11

Most Dominicans are under water. Stop pretending that you don’t know what is happening on island. You darn well know.
      Are you a hypocrite?

Every cent counts. Too many residents are jobless and experiencing financial embarrassment. You may have difficulty believing that many families don’t know where their next coming from because you are satisfied with the crumbs that fall from Roosevelt’s mouth.

Ok Dominicans bend over and grip the table hard cause you all. Opted for things like this to take the hard shafting u all going to get . You all tired pay party politics without teaching the politicians that they are not entitled to there position. You all had the chance to teach the a lesson that you all are the power and can vote them out when and whenever you all want so they stay humble and do what’s best for the country . Now they are there and doing Dominicans whatever they want .
Before when foreigners owned domlec the power stayed on even though the money left the country the power stayed on . Now the money goes to the gov. The power cannot even stay on
That’s what you all get for years of taking the bribe money every election then staying and suffer and beg for bread till next election
Enjoy the raise in elec and water with worse service

The only two things Roosevelt and his cabinet of nitwits do well are to manufacture lies and tax the people broke.

For too many in Dominica, they work to pay bills and taxes. They have no savings be at disposal income. If they are lucky to procure work, as son as they get a paycheck it DONE! They live from had to mouth.

Roosevelt stated that he will exit politics early 2025. If so, his legacy will be one of ubiquitous corruption, entrenched poverty, underwhelming development, astronomical indebtedness, an avalanche of nuisance taxes, opacity and deception.

On his epitaph will be these words: Here Lies the Worst Prime Minister of Dominica and Probably the World.

Who is to be blamed for this? The fools who continue to vote for their oppressor (Roosevelt).

The severe economic hardship will only exacerbate once this rapscallion remains in office. Electricity has become an essential item in this time of modernity. The sad thing is, in Dominica, hundreds of families will be forced to live in darkness as they do not have the purchasing power to afford this now ‘luxury’.

A bad leader seeks power, while a good leader empowers. Roosevelt and his posse of miscreants have impoverished the vast majority of Dominicans. It’s mind-bogglingly incomprehensible how any sane person can vote for such a rattlesnake.
