A 33 year-old Sliver Lake man, namely Jamie Simeon, and a Campbell man, Tyrone Mitchel said to be in his 20’s, are the victims of a tragic shooting death in the city of Roseau.
Information received by Dominica News Online (DNO) is that, sometime before 2:00 a.m., on September 23, 2023, both men were at a popular bar in the city, Garage Bar and Grill when the shooting occurred.
Mitchel is said to have been the first victim to be shot and then Simeon.
They were subsequently transported to the Dominica China Friendship (DCFH) where they were officially pronounced dead by a medical doctor.
DNO will continue to follow this story and report any new development as the investigation unfolds.

Law enforcement needs to be much more proactive. Preventative measures must be put in place. Here are some suggestions:
*video surveillance (CCTv)
*constant foot and mobile patrol by law enforcement
*targeted process of stop and search
*stepped up border surveillance
*constant police presence in hotspot areas
*community policing
*creation of good paying jobs
*a professional and well trained and equipped police service
These are just but a few suggestions. However, the onus in on those legislators and policy makers to implement and execute some of these practical solutions. Where there is a will, there is a way.
Positive post coming from you for a change and may I add, citizens should assist the police whenever possible. If you see something, hear something then say something. Don’t be tight lipped. Everyone has a part to play in keeping our community safe.

The talkers and the know it alls must help the police. When a crime takes place witnesses must be prepared to come forward and the police must put in place measures to protect witnesses. Too many of these organize killings go unsolved. There were about 16 homicides in 2022 with no trials of most .
Most of terpetrators remain at large free to ply their trade of murder and the few that have been caught are out on bail free to continue their illegal activities. We must also remember that when police in St. Lucia some years ago took drastic action to curb the rising tide of crime they were sanctioned by the US and heavily criticized by other countries including the UK. Unfortunately these killings will continue and stop only when cases are solved in an expeditious manner and stiff sentences handed to those found guilty.

I will repeat that the Black Lives Matter movement seems to only manifest itself when a white police officer in the US (out of the thousands of good white officers there) kills a black person in the US. It seems that movement has absolutely no interest in black lives when black people kill other black people.
