A drive-by shooting in the community of Bath Estate has resulted in death of local artist Ron Garth Jolly of Louisville.
Jolly, who was known the entertainment industry as Burn Brain Jolly succumbed to multiple gun shot wounds last evening–May 12, 2022.
While an official statement from the police has not yet been released, Dominica News Online (DNO) was reliably informed by police sources that on the aforementioned date, shortly after 10:00 p.m., Jolly and a group of friends were in the community of Bath Estate when a vehicle approached them and an occupant opened fire.
Jolly was rushed to the Dominica China Friend Hospital (DCFH) where he succumbed to his injuries and was officially pronounced dead.
Police have since launched an investigation into the homicide.
Jolly was among artists expected to perform at The Mall in Bellevue this evening.
This brings to seven the number of homicides that have been recorded for the year so far in Dominica.
DNO will continue to follow this story and report any new development as it becomes available.

I remember this kid a while back going to SMA and a certain teacher was talking at a meeting about how rude and disrespectful the boys and his friends were. The parents laughed at her and even some of the other teachers laughed at her. Only one teacher stood up and said something in support of the disrespect and the misguidance of those boys. The parents sat there and laughed. when the teacher see is true, she walked out and I remember sitting there and hearing a mother who was sitting there asking her in a sort of sarcastic way where she was running to. The teacher said that she was going to hold a wake for the future of those boys. This boys father was there and he laughed at the woman. Maybe he should have listened I am sorry for their loss and I hope that this will be one of the many lessons that our youth here learn but only time will tell.
All is not lost Ibo. We can still instill character into our Youth. Get Big Brother programs since most crimes are men. STEP UP THE GAME Ibo if you safe one off the street your work is done be a big brother to a single parent youth. DO something worthwhile instead of talking about a n election that is long gone. We have a political party (DLP) in power for twenty two (22) consecutive years due to violence, cheating, treating, corruption, bribery, divisiveness, lies, intimidation, malpractice, persecution. The list is infinite.

Lawyers fight hard for people charged with serious crime to get bail and walk back into society while petty charges with no evidence bring harsh bail terms and confinement to a dirty nasty stinking police cell. People have died in custody before seeing de court.

This has contributed to the rising criminality as the real criminals know that the ‘police’ priorities are misplaced. So they think that they can commit the most heinous of crimes with impunity.
Ongoing training of the ‘police’ personnel in evidence gathering; protection of the crime scene; investigative techniques; forensics; community policing; descalation of volatile situations; beefing up of the security of the borders; are not prioritised. Brute force to intimidate law abiding opposition leaders, and their supporters are top preoccupation.
The entire population of Dominica at 70, 000 is less than that of Fort de France in Martinique (90,000). At the rate we are going we would notch up 18 murders by the end of this year, a homicide rate of 26. The rate for Martinique in 2009 (latest available figures) was 2.8, accounting for 11 homicides. In 2020 Dominica’s homicide rate, with 15 murders, was 20.8*. Martinique is our neighbour, visible across the channel. We should find out what they do better than us.

Life so cheap in our country these days. Easy come easy go.I mean, the year not even five months old and already seven killings in a small country like ours. God have mercy.
8 in 5 months they added another in less than 48hrs. Something need to happen with these guns all over the place. Everybody knows where the guns are and who has them.
Guns are not manufactured in Dominica. So how are these instruments of death getting into the country? Are the borders too porous? Is corruption in government and the civil service too rampant?
In recent times barrels of guns were confiscated at the sea port. The country has not heard anything about this afterwards. As far as I know, no one has been charged in connection with such a serious crime. Is corruption and secrecy at play here?
I have repeated this ad nauseam. When a government is secretive, dark and corrupt, the entire country becomes corrupt.
We need serious, transparent, accountable competent, and astute people in
the Cabinet of government. We need a vibrant economy that breeds livable wages. We need to give the youths hope of a better future.

Let me disabuse you of your misguided notions. My words may be harsh at times but truthful. The truth is sometimes like a bitter medicine. I love people but abhor liars, thieves, bandits, criminals in high public office. I would not relent from criticising their immoral and unethical conduct, their disastrous mode of operations.
When Melissa spoke about snipers and navy seals, she was indirectly speaking about guns, ammunition, violence in Dominica. This was fanning the flames of conflict, confrontation and political turmoil in the country. It was a subliminal message to her party’s fringed supporters.
Politics affects our lives everyday and in every way. It affects our food, water, air, standard of living, job opportunities, relationships, I mean everything. It is inescapable. I have seen a viciousness and a depraved disregard for human life at a level never experienced before. Today, a human life is not sacred anymore. Killing a man is like smashing a glass bottle. Mind-bogglingly inexplicable as to how and why we’ve got to this point.
We are always quick to level blame at the feet of the young people. The question is where did they learn this abhorrent behaviour? It comes from the society of course.
The songs we play; movies we watch; amoral, putrid and objectionable behaviour of the adults; dysfunctional homes; easy access to guns; cutthroat politics that has become the norm. These societal vices combined is having a deleterious impact especially on the impressionable minds of the youths.
With broken homes, a degenerate and vengeful government, misguided youths, crimes are most likely to exacerbate. It seems like only the direct intervention of God can save Dominica from itself.
We kill each other with our tongues daily. The most unruly member. We teach hate and if we have no regards of what comes out of our mouth then what do we expect from the youth. Regardless of politics we should be careful what we say. We bare teaching people to hurt our Leaders. Politics or no Politics. Bitterness comes out then when something like this happens we cry WOLF!!!!Shame on us older citizens.
