DSWMC places focus on Fond Cole area clean-up

Garbage in a section of Fond Cole

Community cleanliness remains a top priority for the Dominica Solid Waste Management Corporation (DSWMC), and in doing so, the corporation is currently focusing its efforts on the Fond Cole area clean-up.

An announcement on the DSWMC Facebook Page states that a truly clean community starts with how persons manage their waste at home.

“We urge all residents to stop co-mingling waste. This means not putting all your waste in one bag. Please separate your recyclables from your general waste – recyclables should never be mixed with your general refuse,” the corporation urged.

It went on to add that, “solving our waste challenges and keeping our communities clean is a shared responsibility.”

“We can only achieve this if everyone plays their part by sorting waste at the source and only putting out waste on the specified days and times,” the corporation indicated.

The public is reminded to follow the corporation’s Facebook page for daily schedules and updates.

“Remember waste is everyone’s responsibility, together we can keep Dominica Clean,” the corporation indicated.

Dominica is smelly and unsightly. A regular and reliable garbage collection service is critical if the country is to recover its ‘Garden of Eden’ status.

In Barbados and St. Kitts EVERY household has a proper garbage bin and I understand a regular and reliable garbage collect schedule. Why not Dominica?

Most of the revenue that should go into the consolidated fund seems to be siphoned off to enrich the one percenters (1%s).

Any country that looks like a huge garbage dump with little social services, corruption is the problem.

    Good Monday morning 🌄.
I lve in Aruba 🇦🇼 born and raised, my deceased parents are from Dominica 🇩🇲 Coulibistrie and Soufriere respectively.
My observation is very short concerning the article of waste pileup.
The waste Management of Dominica can’t supply residents with waste bins and let them pay a fee by the Month?
