DSWMC to address Fond Cole Landfill fire among other matters this week

Smoke from Fond Cole Landfill fire, June 30

The Dominica Solid Waste Management Corporation (DSWMC) is inviting residents of Stockfarm, Yampiece, Bellevue Rawle and other neighbouring communities this Wednesday (July 9) to discuss important matters concerning these communities including the recent fire at the Fond Cole Landfill fire.

This was according to PRO of the DSWMC Rhoda St John.

The meeting will take place at the Dominica State College (DSC) Lower Campus from 4:30 PM.

“Your presence and impact are valuable as we work together to address these issues,” she emphasized. “We look forward to seeing you there.”

In a statement last week the corporation’s PRO informed the general public that law enforcement officials are actively investigating the recent landfill fire.

“The DSWMC will issue a public statement upon the conclusion of the police investigation,” she said.

Furthermore, she stated that the corporation maintains a zero-tolerance policy regarding unauthorized burning, particularly on the landfill site.

“Any findings from the investigation that necessitate enforcement action will be pursued to the full extent of the law,” St John warned.“The Corporation strongly condemns and does not endorse any incineration practices at the landfill.”

This is your modus operandi, instead to facing the music for subjecting the residence to this poisonous, suffocating smoke, throw the blame on a helpless vagrant or a ghost person.

It’s a combination of gross negligence, an long obsolete landfill and lack of resources and requisite technical knowledge.

Every public entity in Dominica performs suboptimally and abysmally – hospitals, parliament, electoral commission, all the ministries no exception. My point is simply this, we cannot have a twenty-one(21) year old, substandard administration in power and expect superlative performance.
