The Dominica Solid Waste Management Corporation (DSWMC) has announced an adjustment to the time for accepting white goods, derelict galvanize, and other metal items at the Fond Cole Landfill.
In a previous announcement last week the DSWMC said these items will be accepted from Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
However, a new announcement issued on Monday stated that the items will now be accepted from Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00p.m.
White goods typically refer to large household appliances such as refrigerators, washing machines, dryers, stoves, ovens, dishwashers, air conditioners, and water heaters.
In July of this year, DSWMC Public Relations Officer Rhoda St. John stated that the landfill would not be accepting these items until further notice. This decision followed a fire that broke out at the Fond Cole Landfill on Monday, June 30, resulting in thick smoke affecting parts of the surrounding community.
During that period, the landfill was limited to accepting only general waste.
In a previous statement, St. John also urged the public to manage their waste responsibly.
For more information, the public is advised to call 449-8168 or 616-0035.
