Education minister has strong advice for youth leading up to the festivities

Education Minister Octavia Alfred has implored students to avoid the use of alcohol during this year’s Carnival celebrations.

“I take this opportunity to send a caution note to all of our students,” she said via a statement. “An age-level characteristic of adolescents and teenagers is to feel invincible. You feel as if you are in control and this and that cannot ever happen to you. Therefore, I say to you during this season do not feel invincible, because anything that has happened to your friend or someone of your age can happen to you.”

She continued, “This season I want to say to you it is an occasion where there will be many temptations to indulge in the use of alcohol, but please avoid the use of alcohol at all costs.”

Furthermore, Alfred encouraged students to stay in control of their behaviour by avoiding alcohol, because “the use of alcohol affects your judgement and it will lead you to make poor decisions.”

She pointed out to students that there is no reason to carry weapons around.

“This season play it safe and look out for your friends,” Alfred urged. “Also be responsible, try to exercise healthy self–management.”

She also told students to exercise responsibility when it comes to their sexual behaviour.

“Remember your body is the temple of the Lord,” she noted. “Also ensure that family members know your whereabouts…and as much as possible try to move with friends’ company.”

Empty words from an empty vessel. You and ur colleagues put everything in place to ensure that we, the young people fall hard and burst our mouths if not their brains, and now you want to give us advice?

When was this message disseminated to the students? Why can’t the same thing be done by this lazy, speech defected and dunce Minister of Education throughout the school year? The thing is, our society is in free fall, and this Skerrit regime is 100% responsible. Its so dam sad to see so many young men just smoking their lives away, while others are both smoking and drinking. You all hypocrites fail to see the deleterious effect of alcohol consumption on people who are of working age. Has there ever been a court case of a shop proprietor selling alcohol to a minor in Dominica? Why are shops and bars that sell alcohol located so close to so many of our schools? Isn’t that of concern to you all? HYPOCRITES!!
Dominica’s demise is 100% you all responsibility.
