Emerald Elegance’s heartwarming donation to Dominica Infirmary and PHARCS holds personal significance, says Michele Henderson

In a remarkable display of community spirit and generosity, the January 8 Emerald Elegance benefit concert, organized by Michele Hendeson and MV Freewinds, has created a profound impact on many lives in Dominica.

At the heart of the concert’s success was an inspiring commitment to better the lives of the elderly in Dominica, particularly motivated by Henderson, who personally presented the donations at the recent handing-over ceremony.

The event not only inspired glowing reviews across the board, but it reportedly generated an impressive $24,075 from ticket sales, and also attracted an additional $5,500 in cash and kind donations. This support was split between two vital organizations: the Dominica Infirmary and PHARCS (Promoting Healthy Aging, Resilience, and Community Services).

PHARCS  Founder and CEO, Marie Therese Junkere, upon receiving a check for over $12,600 and $1,000 worth of vouchers, was visibly touched and expressed her heartfelt gratitude.

“Words fail me,” she indicated.

She further thanked Michele, Captain Napier of the Mv Freewinds, and all supporters for their heartwarming generosity and emphasized that the concert was truly “spectacular.”

Junkere acknowledged, particularly, the contributions of the Fort Young Hotel and Issa Trading for their roles in improving the lives of  PHARCS residents, and what she said has been unwavering support over the years.

She then announced that Michele Henderson has taken on the role of patron of PHARCS, solidifying her commitment to the cause.

Henderson confirmed this,  revealing that she grew up with her great-grandparents, and has always held a special place in her heart for the elderly. Recognizing their plight in Dominica, she remains dedicated to advocating for their welfare. “It is truly an honor,” she stated, about leading the charge. She pledged to continue to “leverage the love” within the community and emphasized her resolve to do more in society, ensuring that the needs of the elderly remain a priority.

Managing Director of the Dominica Infirmary, Ms. Clannis Jno Baptiste, expressed that her organization was “truly touched” by Michele Henderson’s efforts. She noted that the benefit concert transcended being a mere fundraiser; it became a celebration of community, love, and the spirit of giving. The event has instilled a renewed sense of hope and motivation within the community, reminding everyone that they are not alone in their struggles, said Jno Baptiste.

The remarks indicated quite clearly, that support for these two organizations was deeply felt by all stakeholders.

At the ceremony, Henderson acknowledged the collective efforts of co-organizers, sponsors, and community members who pulled together in a demonstration of the power of kindness, including MV Freewinds, (and band), Her Excellency President of Dominica, Mrs Syvanie Burton, and Mr Burton, HHV Whitchurch, Issa Trading, Jolly’s Pharmacy, Depex Studio, The Realm, Banana Tree, and several members of the media fraternity including Dominica News Online, as well as others.
