The Electoral Reform Coalition (ERC) has brought its long-standing campaign for electoral reform to the attention of Barbados PM and current Chair of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), Mia Mottley, in the form of an official letter. The letter is dated February 18, one day ahead of the commencement of the 48th Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community, being held in Barbados from February 19-21.
The ERC, a coalition of civil society organizations dedicated to achieving comprehensive electoral reform, has formally urged Prime Minister Mottley to present this letter, highlighting their cause, among the other heads of state and governments within the CARICOM framework.
The ERC’s campaign, which has spanned over fifteen years, has maintained that there is a pressing need for significant changes to Dominica’s electoral framework. The coalition describes an ongoing struggle characterized by governmental indifference towards their calls for reform. This lack of engagement has been juxtaposed with a reportedly troubling response from the Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force, which the ERC claims has employed violent tactics against peaceful advocates demanding updates to an electoral system perceived as antiquated and inadequate.
The letter addressed to Mottley outlines the urgent need for CARICOM’s intervention and support in the efforts to modernize electoral processes in Dominica.
As the Chair of CARICOM, Prime Minister Mottley holds a pivotal role in fostering cooperation among member states and addressing issues that transcend national borders.
The ERC correspondence extends their assurances of “highest consideration” to Prime Minister Mottley.

ERC is an arm of UWP and they are not representing the people.The people have rejected UWP and they will continue to do so for a very long time.19 to 2 UWP zero.
This is why Dominica will continued to be laughed at. St Kitts electoral laws allows persons born overseas to kittician nationals to register to vote, it also allows overseas voting in a very liberal ways other countries in Caricom allow overseas voting. and what can Caricom do? Perhaps expel Dominica from Caricom. Too many people and institutions in Dominica have this COLONIAL OR SLAVE MASTER MENTALITY believing that we should continue to be under the control of absentee landlords and former colonial masters.
Dominica is and independent country and the Labour led government is not going against the constitution of the commonwealth of Dominica.Electoral reform is a recommendation not law.The election observers,for the pass three(3) elections in Dominica have said,the elections held in DOMINICA was free and fair and reflected the WILL of the people according to the electoral laws of Dominica.No ERC or CARICOM can force the government to change the constitution.That is Dominica internal affairs and have nothing to do with CARICOM,the majority of Dominicans are not interested in electoral reform,so ERC can go to HELL they are not representing the majority of Dominicans.
Should have also send to all media houses in the Caricom bloc.
@L C Matthew
Good suggestion.
It’s not too late. Hope someone can bring this to the attention of those, or someone in the ERC.
The dastardly corrupt electoral system that dishonest Roosevelt presides over should be exposed to not only the regional media but globally. The rest of the world should treat this congenital Liar like a leper. His regional counterparts are like peas in the same pods. They are experts of malpractice.
I agree with you. And out of due process, protocol and formal courtesies I would have copied the President of the Commonwealth of Dominica and the Dominica Ambassador to CARICOM, even the PM office. It does not matter that the offices of the President and Prime Minister are in bed with each other, but out of respect for Dominica and the process, I would have advised that. Then the CARICOM Chair would not have to ask the Government of Dominica, have you seen this letter, she would see that it has been cc’d to his office and the President! The PM is scum but we can maintain protocol even when facing a pig who wants to wrestle us in laboo, oh yes, Labour laboo!
