Father and daughter die in airplane crash in Florida, heading to deliver aid to Jamaica

A tragic aviation accident in Florida resulted in the deaths of a father and daughter shortly after their aircraft took off with the pair en route to deliver aid supplies to communities affected by Hurricane Melissa in Jamaica.

According to authorities, the victims, Alexander Wurm, aged 53, and his 22-year-old daughter Serena, lost their lives when their Beechcraft King Air aircraft crashed into a lake in a residential neighborhood in Coral Springs, a city located north of Miami. NBC News reported that the incident happened shortly after the plane departed from Fort Lauderdale, and footage from security cameras captured the moment of impact, revealing the aircraft disintegrating upon hitting the water.

The article described Alexander Wurm as being known for founding Ignite the Fire, a Christian ministry with an evangelical focus. The organization was reportedly active across the Caribbean, including the Cayman Islands, and had previously participated in delivering aid to Jamaica. The purpose of Wurm’s flight was to continue such humanitarian efforts.

Emergency personnel, including police and fire rescue teams, responded promptly to the scene on Monday, said the write-up. Divers were deployed in an attempt to locate any survivors, but officials later indicated that the operation had shifted from a rescue to a recovery effort. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has launched an investigation into the cause of the crash.

It is noted that Wurm’s most recent aid mission to Jamaica was completed on November 4.
