Fire and Ambulance Services to receive new vehicles

The Dominica Fire and Ambulance Services will soon receive an additional ambulance and a fire truck that are expected to bring relief to the country. Head of the Dominica Fire and Ambulance Services, Wayne Letang made the disclosure during a press conference on Monday.

“There is a promise from the government and we are expecting in short time, that payments will be made for one fire truck and one ambulance,” he revealed. “The fire truck comes from a company called Angloco in England and that fire truck is at the cost of just over 1 million EC dollars and the ambulance at the cost of just $110,000 US dollars.”

He continued, “These equipment will bring good relief to us.”

Furthermore, he reported that a new station is being constructed in the Grandbay area.

“That district is a developing district and the firefighting capabilities that we have in this area [need] improvement,” he stated. “This station will bring such, as we expect more persons to be even more comfortable than we are right now with good living conditions.”

Letang indicated that the station will be constructed with two floors, the ground floor which will be operations, consisting of storerooms, the engine room, operation offices, and a meeting place.

“We also have in that facility a decontamination bay for washing off our ambulance and the decontaminating of our equipment,” he explained.

He continued, “And the first floor of that building will be for residents.”

That Letang said will include; male and female barracks, and bathroom facilities for staff at all times.

Meanwhile, he told Dominicans that, “we continue to live in a safe environment and it has been recognized of late that persons have been complaining about contacting the fire service.”

Letang took this opportunity to inform the nation who may be interested in contacting the fire service of the numbers of such contacts.

Currently, the Fire and Ambulance Services has 165 employees on the island.
