Tune in, turn it up, and let the memories play – because great music never expires.

The French Creole component of WCMF 2025 continues to be the focus of Flashback Favourites leading up to the festival. This time the spotlight falls on the song Fraiche, one of the big hits of Dominican music icon, Gordon Henderson, who will  perform on Night One.

Fraiche is a vibrant cadence-lypso track by Dominican-born icon Gordon Henderson, released in 2023. Known for pioneering the genre through his band Exile One, Henderson blends rhythmic guitar, tropical percussion, and poetic lyricism to celebrate Caribbean beauty and identity. The song’s title—French for “fresh”—sets the tone for a sensual tribute to a woman’s allure, wrapped in imagery of hibiscus flowers, sapotilla fruit, and trade winds from Gosier.

Lyrically, Fraiche is both romantic and cultural, affirming Antillean pride with lines like “Manman’w sé antiyè, Papa’w sé antiyè, Nou tout nou sé antiyé” (“Your mother is Antillean, your father is Antillean, we are all Antillean”). Henderson’s evocative phrasing—“Kon an panplemous ka koulé kon dlo dous” (“Like a grapefruit dripping like sweet water”)—captures the song’s sensual core. With its melodic warmth and lyrical depth, Fraiche stands as a modern homage to the cadence-lypso tradition.
