The heavy rainfall which has been affecting Dominica since morning, has caused flooding in various parts of the island.
Several videos posted on social media show flooding in many communities, particularly along the west coast.
The heavy rain is also affecting the visit by two cruise ships docked at the cruise ship berth in Roseau and at the Woodbridge Bay port.
The Dominica Meteorological Office stated in its 6:00 AM advisory this morning that low-level moisture and instability were expected to generate cloudy periods with scattered showers, “which could be moderate at times, over the island during the next 12 to 24 hours.” It urged people in areas prone to flooding, landslides, and falling rocks to be on alert and to continue to exercise caution. Small-craft operators and sea-bathers were also cautioned to be on alert for strong breaking wave action along beaches.
The following Flood Warning was later issued by the met office to remain in effect until 12 noon today.

Some videos of the flooding can be seen below.

No one has control over the weather patterns. But every time there is consistent showers widespread flooding and destruction occurs. Some think this is unavoidable due to the topography of the land (mountains, hills, valleys). I beg to defer.
Yes, the mountainous nature of the land contributes somewhat. However, the very poor or non-existent drainage in many areas is one of the primary causes. Other contributing factors are poorly built containing walls, bad engineering of the construction of roads, blocked waterways, building edifices on hillsides, et cetera.
All of the abovementioned inadequacies put the peoples’ lives and properties at great
risk every time there is a drizzle. But who cares! Certainly not the power hungry, self I absorbed gluttony in government.
