Fond Cole resident seeking assistance

Richard Cuffy

A Fond Cole resident is crying out for help after an accident in Springfield on August 4, left him with serious leg injuries, rendering him unable to work.

Richard Cuffy who has been assisting customers on the grounds at P.H. Williams & Co. Ltd in loading, transporting, and off-loading cement blocks for many years told Dominica News Online (DNO) that because he has been out of work for over a month, he is unable to support himself financially.

According to Cuffy he, along with two other men, was assisting a truck driver in transporting over 1000 blocks from P.H.Williams & Co Ltd to Salybia.

He explained that they were sitting at the back of the truck on top of the blocks, about 14 feet high at the time of the accident. However, when the truck arrived in the Springfield area, he said the right front wheel axle broke and the truck flipped over. Cuffy along with the two other men and the truck driver sustained injuries following that incident.

“When I fell from that height I broke my right leg. Right now I cannot work, I cannot help myself,” he sobbed. “Some of my family are helping me by providing me with a meal, they help clean my home and yard, but financially I cannot help myself.”

He continued, “It’s really frustrating not being able to help myself. I have bills to pay…my internet was disconnected and I had my television I bought at Courts on hire purchase returned. It’s really rough.”

Cuffy added, “I am calling for additional assistance whether it may be in cash or kind.”

Additionally, Cuffy told DNO that about two weeks ago the truck driver gave him $100, explaining that he would not be covered by the driver’s insurance because he wasn’t sitting at the front of the truck.

“I wasn’t aware of that,” he noted. “My life was at risk.”

He added that the driver promised to assist in any way that he can.

Cuffy remarked that he will exercise caution when he is fully healed and back on the hustle.

Anyone who is willing to assist Cuffy can contact him via telephone number 767-614-2169.

These are issues that should be addressed by the Government. We need legislation in place to ensure that heavy fines are levied against drivers who willfully and deliberately place the lives of others at risk. It’s time to implement these changes.

file a law suite on truck driver and company. they should not have allowed and have safety policy in place. that is why they pay insurance.

In Dominica many contractors do not carry insurance and health and safety policies are nonexistent. Furthermore, if the contractor is favored by the government, a law suite would get nowhere.

Almost two years ago, an articulated vehicle carrying a tracked excavator ran out of control as it attempted to negotiate the Imperial Road at Antrim. The vehicle, owned by George Trucking & Excavating Services, was under contract to the government at the time of the accident.

The vehicle crashed through the entrance of my property and caused considerable damage. The articulated platform carrying the excavator overturned. The worker riding on the platform managed to jump clear.

To date I have received no compensation from either the company or the government.

The truck should be insured, and the owner of the truck is legally liable!
The owner should have reported the accident to the insurance carrier, in order to pay for all medical expenses, for personal injury.
If the owner of the motor vehicle did not have insurance, the victim’s can sue the owner in order to be compensated.
In any event whereas Dominica is banana republic it might not be mandatory to have insurance, the victims simply have to suck it up!

    This is very sad.

Those who ride in the back of pick-ups would find themselves in the same predicament. They are not covered by the vehicle’s insurance in the event of an accident.

What sort of garbage is this. Where is your empathy man? But again clowns have no empathy. That’s the only sort of rubbish a self professed clown can write.
No one should expect better from a clown.

DNO you are allowing Lin Clown to use the word WHORE on your site. However, whenever I use the word ‘moron’ you take offence and refuse to publish it. What’s up with that?

The gentleman needs to seek advice from a lawyer who does pro bono work needy persons. We are much too lax when it comes to safety on the job. Safety rules and laws must be observed at all times.

ADMIN: You just used the word moron and it was published.

We do not typically agree when insults are used but these and similar words do appear in our comment section.

We allow a fair bit of leeway but we may remove comments that “have descended into bickering between commenters (which generally makes tedious reading)”

Typical crybaby thin-skinned UWPwee supporter. Quit whining like a pussy cat! Day in, day out, all you have to offer are insults, especially when you have no logical defense for your idiocy. You hurl nasty comments at everyone, using the different handles. Yet, when a little pebble is thrown your way, you whine, moan, and complain.

          Sakway crybaby!

DNO is very inconsistent in what it allows to pass moderation.
LinClown is noted for posting slimy stuff,, but it still gets through.
