The “evocative works” of artist Carla Armour are set to be featured in a solo exhibition, titled “Inner Essence’s Journeys,” at Fort Young Hotel’s Old Oven Art Gallery. The announcement came via a press release from parent company Gems Holdings Ltd.
This exhibit, slated to begin on February 18, and extend until April 21, 2025, beckons audiences to delve into themes of introspection, fortitude, and the bonds between all things. The display reportedly integrates a range of artistic formats, including emotionally charged paintings, immersive installations, and spoken word performances. It highlights the capacity of art to foster self-understanding, cultural understanding, and spiritual elevation.
“Each painting is an immersion into vibrant layered colours, asemic marks, text and iconography inspired by West Indian symbology, colonial customs and Indigenous petroglyphs, reflecting a deep connection to our mixed heritage,” the statement continues.
In her words, artist Carla Armour expressed her enthusiasm for the venture, stating, I am honoured and excited to present my work at the Fort Young Hotel’s Old Oven Art Gallery, a fortified place steeped in history – one of struggle for identity, resilience and transformation. As a site of defence and protection, combined with its connection to a culinary past, resonates deeply with my explorative process. My work for this exhibition feels site-specific, shaped by the energy of the space, and I hope that resonance is felt.”
Dearest Carla,
I send you greetings from Canada. I wish I could be there to witness your exhibit in person. Here’s to your success!
With love and admiration, Camille
