Frontline tourism staff in Dominica ready to revolutionize visitor experiences following training intensive

The training groups

The Ministry of Tourism, together with the Discover Dominica Authority (DDA) and in partnership with the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO), has successfully wrapped up the Chief Experience Officer (CEO) Training Series—an initiative designed to elevate service quality throughout Dominica’s tourism sector. Spanning from July 28 to August 11, 2025, a joint press release said that the program trained 147 frontline workers, equipping them with the expertise needed to provide memorable and consistent visitor interactions.

Participants came from various segments of the industry, including taxi operators certified by NISE, tour guides, artisans selling crafts and souvenirs, hair braiders, hotel staff, and forestry park rangers. The training sessions reportedly promoted teamwork and cooperation, encouraging a shift from an individualistic approach to a collective mindset centered on the success of the destination.

The sessions were led by Mr. Norris Clement, Project Manager for the CTO Human Capital Development Initiative, who brought over 26 years of experience in delivering service excellence. Key topics covered included emotional intelligence, service recovery strategies, ongoing improvement practices, and stakeholder engagement.

Marva Williams, CEO and Director of Tourism, stated, “Our service providers are the heartbeat of Dominica’s tourism industry. This training has strengthened their skills and reinforced their critical role in shaping the visitor experience. By investing in our people, we are investing in the continued growth and positive reputation of Dominica as the Nature Island of the Caribbean.”

The Ministry of Tourism and the DDA shared that the CEO Training Series exemplifies their dedication to workforce development, service quality, and the sustainable expansion of Dominica’s tourism sector.

    Comments regarding the bad conditions in Roseau noted. Now some positives? And please remember Dominica is more than just Roseau. What about other possible places of interests. Things to do in addition to those Roseau offers.

      @Denis
      Roseau represents the face of Dominica. Can you deny that? It’s already a turn off. Why Roseau is probably the only CARICOM capital city, where men in particular, can just pull their ‘tolies’ out and urinate all around the place? Pass around the Tobacco Factory, you must faint from the stench. Watch the state of the drains, the sidewalks, etc. Why cant those in tourism stand up and say that’s unacceptable? Other than Roseau? Well take the tourists to my village, where garbage has not been collected for more than a month, and Dominica will get excellent press coverage. Already those trecking the train have taken several photos, to do what? I dont know.
      So on a whole, you all are just maybe naive, or just shameless, because you all know, but choose to stay quiet.

    How are you all going to revolutionize the visitor experience in Dominica? By showing them the piles of garbage all across Dominica?
    You all must be blind, wicked or just shameless. Roseau needs about 2 months hosing down. It small very bad. Dominica is dirty and dying, so you all must order on Amazon.com, some shame glands, because you all are too dam shameless.
    The dirtiest CARICOM country for sure.

      Hosing down Roseau with just water will not suffice. Large buckets of Pine-Sol, Clorox, Lysol, Mr. Clean, Mrs. Meyer’s and Puracy are needed. Remember it’s twenty five (25) years of thick, slimy, dark, odorous sewage.
