GEMS Foundation announces new GEMS Artisan Market

The GEMS Foundation has announced the upcoming launch of the GEMS Artisan Market (GAM), a three-day cultural event scheduled to take place from August 1 to August 3, 2025. The event will be held at the Fort Young Hotel in Roseau, Dominica, a location recognized for its historical significance and central position in the capital city.

GAM aims to highlight Dominica’s diverse artistic and cultural heritage by bringing together 32 local artisans and 30 performers for a weekend focused on art, music, food, and community engagement. The event is open to the public and will be free of charge, encouraging broad community participation.

Jael Joseph, Event Lead at the GEMS Foundation, stated, “GAM is more than a market, it’s a movement. We’re creating a space where our local makers, creatives, and entrepreneurs can shine, sell, and be celebrated. It’s about showcasing Dominican excellence and building pride in our cultural identity.”

Participants in the market will display a variety of locally produced items, including handmade crafts, herbal products, jewelry, clothing, fine art, and home goods. The event will also feature acoustic performances, spoken word, and poetry sessions, providing a lively and inviting atmosphere throughout the Fort Young Hotel property. A dedicated stage area in the Marquis space will host many of these performances.

Gregor Nassief, Chief Executive Officer of GEMS Holdings, emphasized the broader significance of the event: “The GEMS Artisan Market celebrates Dominican creativity, resilience, and entrepreneurship. It’s more than a showcase, it’s a platform for artisans to grow as business owners and cultural ambassadors, while strengthening sustainable tourism and community pride.”

The initiative seeks to promote sustainable creative enterprises and economic empowerment within the arts sector. It invites the support of both public and private sector stakeholders to participate in this endeavor.
