A GoFundMe account has been created for Stanford Junior Valerie, who was robbed and shot in the head at his business place in Mero on the evening of January 13.
The account was created by Valerie’s sister Donna Valerie-Ambo, who said that her brother remains in critical condition after the shooting and now requires urgent surgery and needs to be flown to Trinidad for treatment.
She described Valerie as a caring, hard-working and loving member of the community.
“A devoted brother, friend, father, and husband. He is always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need,” she wrote. “I am asking for your help raising funds for Stanford’s surgery and treatment. Any amount will make a massive difference in helping him on the road to recovery. We are grateful for any support you can provide, and thank you in advance for your kindness and generosity.”
She said any amount will her brother a chance at a healthy and happy life.
“He has been there for many of us; now, we can be there for him,” Valerie-Ambo said.
Meanwhile, Valerie’s brother, Ivon Valerie said the incident has been a trying time for the family.
“This is a trying time for us, but as a family, we remain unmoved and steadfast in our faith and confidence in #GOD, and we know “THIS SHALL PASS!” he wrote on his Facebook page. “Because of how our parents raised us by the Word of God, WE ARE BUILT FOR THIS! OUR FOUNDATION IS THE LORD!”
He thanked the many messages and calls of support and love the family has received since the incident.
“Please keep them coming. We are feeling the love, and for that, we are incredibly thankful,” he wrote.
According to the official police report, on the evening of January 13, about 7:40 pm, two masked male individuals each armed with a firearm entered and robbed a mini mart in Mero known as Titanium Groceries of over $3,000.00 in cash.
“During the robbery the owner of the mini-mart, Stanford Valerie, male adult of St. Joseph was shot to the back of his head. He was transported to the Dominica China Friendship Hospital, where he is receiving medical attention,” Inspector Fixton Henderson of the Commonwealth of Dominica Police Force reported.
Based on GoFundMe statistics as of the time of writing on Tuesday morning, US$2,583 have been raised of a $80,000 goal.

Pity our Govt. could not assist this citizen and our hospital unable to provide this service but I glad he is getting help and hope he fully recovers and can resume his business and we are not looking at murder no.2 this year so far. Good luck Stanford.
Truly in fact I was looking for much more comments by us condemning such brutal and vicious attack against an honest and hard working young man who is providing such a valuable service to the general public and even employment to some of us. This is no smiling matter and pressure must come from all angles to force those in authority to do all in their powers to curb these guns and gun related violence in our country. Dominica is too small in population for these type of crimes and these criminals to go on unabated. Something must be done urgently.
“A devoted brother, friend, father, and husband. He is always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need,”
1. You’re telling all his relatives & friends, plus himself, combined doesn’t have money to cover the surgery cost? Shocking.
2. Flight costs aren’t that expensive. Minus that, what’s the rest of the $80,000 going towards? I refuse to believe the surgery costs that much
3. Didn’t the Honourable Dr Dr Dictator Ayatollah Skerrit say he’s building a “state of the art hospital”? Why do people keep having to be flown overseas if the hospital is as great as he claims it is? Something isn’t adding up. But that’s Skerrit for you, all he ever does is lie lie lie. Can’t trust a word he says
Anyway, get well soon Stanford but I’d like to see a breakdown of how every cent is being spent. Maybe then more people (including myself) will be more inclined to donate.
So sad..indeed I will support..I 4 got my phone on his bus..he had no idea whose own and I was able to get it back..an example of an honest man. Mark u it’s an expensive phone eh..not anyone would give this up.
