Good Hope-San Sauveur link road to be reconstructed after more than 30 years

Prime Minister Skerrit speaking at the Good Hope-San Sauveur road reconstruction contract signing ceremony

The government of Dominica has signed a contract for the reconstruction of the link road between the villages of Good Hope and San Sauveur, on the northeast of the island, which has been closed for thirty-four years.

This road was constructed in 1964 but in November 1986, it was closed due to a major landslide.

Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit said during the contract signing ceremony which held in Good Hope, the road is being reconstructed to provide safer access to San Sauveur and Petite Soufriere.

“This is a major investment; it will enhance the safety of road users and this will give us an opportunity now to fix the bypass that has been there since 1986,” the prime minister stated.

He said work started on April 8th 2021.

Minister for Public Works and the Digital Economy, Senator Cassani Laville said the project reflected a continuation of government’s mandate to build resilient infrastructure.

“We will continue to create linkages by building roads and bridges and maintaining that infrastructure,” the minister stated. “We will continue to improve on access by not only patching roads and doing routine maintenance, but we will do like what we have done today, look at creating more efficient linkages to the communities to decrease vulnerability.”

He said the earth work, all the excavation, all the drainage and laying of tarish will first be done and then they will monitor and conduct more detailed geotechnical investigations which will then inform the type of surface that will be used, “whether it be asphaltic concrete or Portland cement concrete.”

Apart from the construction works on the roads, Laville also promised a “well lit road” in that community.

“We will not leave you with just the road, but we will certainly leave you with a well lit road,” he said.

Parliamentary Representative of the Castle Bruce Constituency, Octavia Alfred, said she embraces this project and encouraged everyone to work together.

The estimated cost f the project is $849,980.

Minister for Public Works and the Digital Economy, Cassani Laville also spoke at the ceremony

I always run through the names of commentators on this board to discover that all of them are UWP supporters; so what should be expected from them if not negative remarks?

People, on this comment board against the Prime Minister and his government body, you are like the group of mice in their hole discussing the ways and mean to get rid of the cat, but none of them wants to be the hero–you all’s character is even more laughable than that–my goodness!

Trying to toot their own horn with the “after 30 years”. Why dont they concentrate on resurfacing the road from the Pond Casse round-about to Rosalie? Before taking on new projects. These people eh. What about the promise to revamp and rehabilitate Roseau streets and sidewalks? Go ahead. That is much more important.

Skerrit go to the court and answer to your charge of treating and bribery as Lennox Linton and any Dominican would. The CCJ said you should appear before the magistrate and that what you must do. Don’t try to use your corrupt lawyers to intimidate the DPP or don’t try to raise the dead road of San Sauveur, that’s been dead for 30yrs to change the conversation. If you know you didn’t commit a crime then just go to the court to testify. I want to see Dominica return to the country where our laws and constitution matters, so that no corrupt politician will ever be able to say again that No law no constitution can stop them from doing whatever they want to do to stay in power.

This daft, incumbent regime uses a tiny percent of the CBI monies to build apartment units that will never be owned by the occupants. They fix a road here and a bridge there strictly for political advantageousness. These are the easiest things to accomplish as they have a readily available slush fund to tap into.

Where are the jobs that pay livable wages? What are you doing to get the economy out of the doldrums that has been there for over twenty consecutive years? Where are the solutions to the ever escalating vagrancy problem? What about transparency with the CBI accounts? These are just a few of the pertinent questions.

Dominicans will always get ‘knock bout’ for they are to easily satisfied and misled.

Lin Clown🤡, you have nothing of substance to say or write because you have no knowledge of the bigger picture that we know and talk of. What on earth is the purpose of PM being This so called Prime Minister,?
You are more engaged in flamboyant speeches and talk of nothing of Socioeconomic development concept and therefore unable to comprehend the processes of Socioeconomic development concept and therefore unable to comprehend that bigger picture of the Development and stability of our people and country. This Red Clinic deceptiveness is ridiculous that will not take our people and our Dominica anywhere because you have failed in your licence in Government and Governance and Still Learning to Drive this political vehicle. We wonder if you are sufficiently enough to plot the journey that our people and our Dominica should go. That abusive disgusting Red Clinic to gain loyalty is dead and it appears that the Red Light has been on You for sometime, meaning you know not where you are.

Any time Skerrit is under pressure he either has a few houses or a road built to appease his blind sheep. I just wish he would put this Cassini back in his office, turn the key and throw it in the freshwater lake. I just can’t stand corrupt Skerrit but this one is an even worse one in the making. Watch out for that one a definite wolf in sheep’s clothing!

I am confused because whenever Skerrit utters english one must read over several times, because he is a very poor english speaker.. But didnt that same government attempt to link the two villages years ago? Is it that same road that will be reconstructed?
Is that a completely new road Skerrit is now making reference to?
Why i did not read where the funding will come from?
I gues Cassani was reading from a script, as he did when he was heartlessly and subliminally staying away from condemning the thugs and hooligans of the CDPF who …………………..

Wow Skerrit feels trouble in the upcoming treating and bribery case, so now it seems as if he is about to call a snap election. Going back to one of the elections, I believe it was in 2009 or 2014, Skerrit was in trouble and what you think he did? He fell in love with the same San Sauveur, and what you think he did? Well, he had already gotten money to build a school at Thibaud, since he demolished the one EO LeBlanc built them in the 70’s, so since he doesn’t love Thibaud and he knows they not too smart, be just simply took the school from Thibaud he hated and gave it San Sauveur he is in love with. So now he going to call a snap election and he going to raise a 30yr old road that was dead? Boy that Skerrit not easy
