The stage is set for the much-anticipated 5th Annual Independence Gopwell event tonight.

The event is scheduled to take place at the Newtown Savannah from 10 PM.

“So, this is the 5th Edition, so we are celebrating 5 years of Independence Gopwell and we are doing it big,” Main Organizer of the event, Dane ‘Danejahdane’ Smalling told Dominica News Online during an interview. “This year is a special year for us. It is not just Danjah Entertainment putting this one on.”

He continued, “This is our biggest line-up alongside our Dominica superstars that have been touring the world.”

According to Smalling, the most-streamed dancehall artist from Jamaica, Chronic Law, will form part of the main act, as well as T Kimp Gee from Guadeloupe and Lady Lava, the Zest Queen from Trinidad.

Additionally, he said preparation for the event has been a bit challenging since this year’s venue is bigger.

“So, everything is up and running for the show in terms of artists,” Smalling noted. “Preparation–it has been a lot, because it’s a little bit more challenging than the other times, because we have a bigger venue. And also, we are doing full production.  NSE Event Solutions, we are doing everything. So, everything inside here is us. It takes a lot more out of me than the other years when I just pay somebody, and it gets organized. This time I’m involved in every little thing.”

Meanwhile, he encouraged patrons to have a peaceful independence season.

“My message for the season is badness is out of style,” he advised. “We are not going down that road; Dominica is too sweet for that.”

Smalling added, “If you are going out to party, if you are tired, or if you are intoxicated, please do not drive…a tired mind is just as bad as a drunken mind. If you cannot make the grade, park and sleep. Stay hydrated as well.”

Other performances are expected to come from Triple Kay International, Riddim Knockaz, DJ MJ, Quan and Little Boy, Ridge, Pudaz, Taffy, Trixx, Freddy, Frank White, DJ Sleem, DJ Cut, DJ Shan, Selectah Urban, Danejahdane, among others.

Tickets are available at Depex, Bullseye, Go Fresh, NSE HQ Portsmouth, Cube Cheese Barbershop, and online on ticketpal.com

Tier 1 tickets cost EC$90 and VIP $350- all inclusive.
