Government of Dominica increases subsidy on petroleum products

The Government of Dominica continues to implement measures to keep fuel prices under control as the global price of oil continues to rise.

Given the present global market prices and this new price cycle, the Government has decided to further subsidize the cost of petroleum to reduce the impact on residents and to allow for sustainable economic activities.

The Ministry of Trade and Commerce’s price analysis, for petroleum products, projected the following prices for the upcoming adjustment cycle:

The government will continue applying a waiver of the Customs Service Charge on gasoline and diesel and the granting of the subsidy of EC $0.21 cents per gallon on diesel. Further, due to a greater increase in the global price for gasoline the Cabinet approved an increase in the subsidy on this product from EC$0.60 cents per gallon to EC$0.85 cents per gallon with immediate effect until the retail price of each product returns to below EC $15.00 per gallon.
As a result, the retail prices for the products, with immediate effect, are as follows:

Without the Government’s intervention by way of waivers and subsidies, the retail price of gasoline would be $20.43 and Diesel $18.14. The implementation of the measures will result in continued revenue loss to the state. However, the Government of Dominica remains committed to actions to cushion the impact of escalating world fuel prices and the current inflationary increases affecting basic household items.

    Response It Hurts
Miami Garden is in the United States. The United States is a GAS PRODUCING nation – one of the LARGEST GAS PRODUCING – OPEC member state DOMINICA IS NOT.

Look at ALASKA residents receive subsidies for living there once or twice annually from oil revenues. There are quite a few oil states in the United States – the hold oil in reserves. In Europe now the United States oil producers make a fortune selling oil at higher prices than the European countries would have received from purchasing from Russia.
Dominica itself purchasing oil is at the rate at which these oil producing countries sell it to us and to make a profit mark-up. Price of a barrel of oil rolls over. For example when oil ten dollars a barrel – when the price decreases our use of oil at the decreased price will not be felt until sometime later. Businesses want to make their profit.

We must understand that some folks don’t have access to the internet or international media sources, so the news they receive comes from local outlets. So skerro is only helping us in hard and difficult times. Smh.

Since it’s public policy in Dominica to promote agriculture, perhaps a programme for encouraging biodiesel could help solve both that problem and this one?

Lie Clown, vacuous and thoughtless comments, as usual, coming from a proven ignoramus.

No one with even a modicum of common sense will even think of supporting a government that is completely bankrupt of ideas, and antithetical to the progress of the country.

This regime will throw you under a moving truck while claiming that they love you. How can anyone support this Roosevelt led regime that is demonically wicked?

Dominica is now KAKARAT in the Eastern Caribbean.
That’s means, we are almost on same page with Haiti.

@Braindamage, 20 years ago Dominica was way ahead of the windward islands and some leeward islands? Have you forgotten that these same islands that you mentioned were assisting Dominica in paying their bills 20 years ago, this was as a result of the financial mess that the UWP left behind. Have you forgotten bad roads, unpaid bills. Grenada, St. Lucia, Antigua all had international airports and seaports that could accommodate larger ships than our port. 20 years ago no reasonable hotel that could accommodate tourist. To see a test match one had to go to Antigua or St. Lucia. But again Braindamage is how you call yourself.

Crude oil peaked at around $120 USD earlier this year, yet gas prices were never this high. Crude oil is about $90.77 USD as of Aug 19, 2022, yet in Dominica, the nature island gas prices are at the highest I have ever seen in recent history, something not right….

Roosevelt is a vampire. He continues to suck the blood of the Dominican people. Malnutrition, starvation, hunger and flatulence are the constant companions of the people.

Barbados and other countries of the Caribbean region have found creative ways of reducing fuel prices at the pump. No such initiatives in Dominica.

In fact, the rise in fuel, and generally the cost of living, under this mornin regime, has heralded an increase in poverty and her twin sister, crime.

While the citizens wallow in misery, I was made aware that the head PARASITE has traveled overseas, basking and dining in a Five Star hotel, to relieve himself of the domestic stress.

This is not about what is not right based on your lack of understanding as to what you think. The price of a barrel of oil has nothing to do with the price we pay at the pump, the nefarious economic system and the complex hidden forces decide what we pay at the pump.

Gary, this is how inane you are. If a barrel of crude oil were to rise to US $1 000, would the cost of fuel at the service station remain the same? I know you were raft to begin with, but not to this degree.

Unfortunately your government thought it might be a good idea and default on the PetroCaribe debt/credit line for short term gain. Any idea where the US$100 million have gone? Ask Skerrit, Austrie or Madame Charles. Mind you, the answer is somewhat predictable, NONE OF YOUR DAMN BUSINESS! Let me tell all you, we should make it our business one way or another and kick these guys of their high horses.

Listen, the fact remains: Venezuela did write of US100 million of Dominicas debt. This is a fact and it’s undisputed. My question was a simple and innocent one, if one party had to write of debts the value of the written of debts must be somewhere. Where is the value. The truth of the matter is that Venezuela delivered petroleum products to DA which were subsequently sold by PetroCaribe Dominica to consumers on the island via the gas retail network. The proceeds which in fact are much bigger than 100 million have disappeared. Where is this huge chunk of money. Your quotes of various news agencies doesn’t offer any explanation at all. Quite the opposite in fact (propaganda). Your attempt to use them as an answer or even excuse is a typical Skerrit manoeuvre, IF WE RUN OUT OF ANSWERS WE CREATE A SMOKE SCREEN. I have told you on numerous occasions, you and your political master are not clever enough to fool me. Your rhetoric doesn’t wash with me or most readers of this platform. Get out!!

When will Dominicans learn? Many supporters of this egomaniacal administration need to take off their rose-coloured glasses.

Salaries and wages stagnant:; jobs disappearing; food prices escalating; unemployment rising; crime out of control; and even the court is no longer a trusted arbitrator under the stewardship of Roosevelt.

Simply put, living in Dominica has become a nightmarish experience under the misrule of the incumbent, corrupt, despotic ruler.

Dominicans, get a dose of reality. Your present miserable life will only exacerbate once this power hungry, unintelligent buffoon remains in power. Get Rid of Him, Now and Forever!

Based on the situation going on in the world today involving the nations which control the.oil supply we can appreciate it and see.what benefits it would bring to our people to assist them in alleviating the economic strain on the increase in oil price.

A few months ago we saw when this was mentioned how being an economist did play a role in stating that things would get better and that it is not warranted. Their forecasting skills and judgment and working for the betterment of people how it works.

People should appreciate that what is being done though others are calling for investing in biofuel this is not an immediate assistance.

While those nations which have larger economies how they subsidize or provide subsidies to assist their own people why can’t we.

Good move that should be welcomed. We should remember that we are a sovereign nation fully I MEAN FULLY INDEPENDENT we do not have any other HEAD/GOVERNORS like the other countries.

And yes my response would be that USA is an OPEC country oil producing involved in having oil in reserves determine what countries like.pirs pay at the pump and elsewhere.

These businesses are for profit and the cost reduction felt in the USA does not necessarily equates an instant reduction for us.

As per usual, this conniving, deceptive, amoral administration uses their reliable media entities to disseminate their mind bending propaganda.

I heard from a BBC news broadcast very recently that the cost of a barrel of crude oil has decreased significantly from its recent high. No mention of this.

Roosevelt is just continuing his predatory manipulation of the people, including this news site, for his narrow, selfish reasons. Corruption, just like rice, flour and bread, has become a staple in Dominica since Roosevelt was elevated to the apex position of government by default.
