Makai is a vibrant, joyful, and loving 9-year-old boy who has brought happiness to everyone around him. On December 10, his life took a tragic turn when he was involved in a freak accident, sustaining burns to 55% of his body. He is now in critical condition, fighting for his life at Goodwill Hospital in Dominica.
Sadly, the entire island of Dominica lacks the advanced medical technology and specialized care needed to treat injuries as severe as Makai’s. To give him a fighting chance, he urgently needs to be transported to a hospital in Martinique or Guadeloupe, where the resources and expertise are available to save his life.

I am writing to express my deep frustration and disappointment with the medical system in Dominica, which has reached a point where many individuals, including myself, are forced to rely on GoFundMe campaigns to access necessary medical care. This reality is both disheartening and unacceptable for a nation striving to grow and thrive.
It is baffling that during events such as the Creole Festival, we can allocate resources like helicopters to transport people across the island for convenience and tourism, yet we lack the same commitment to providing emergency medical transport for those in dire need. Why is it that we can prioritize entertainment and tourism, but we cannot ensure the safety and well-being of our own people?

The matter of transportation to another island should not be so much an issue! The disgraceful thing is that, we hear so much about Dominica (China friendship hospital) which Roosevelt and his cronies claimed to be a modern hospital.
Well then; if it’s such modern, how come it is not equipped with a burn unit, where patients like this little boy could be treated?
You know most people hate my opinions, but I totally concur with your reference regarding entertainment: Entertainment is a priority, whereas the health of the nation is not prioritized, meanwhile, there are foreigners, notably one in particular with billions of dollars in foreign banks rather then in our nation treasury.
How can this be? You can see for yourself, if you go to that same hospital, you may find a nurse ambulating dragging one leg, she needs surgery on her hip, which can’t be done in Dominica, she serves the nation, visibly, yet unnoticed, suffering, no help, but Roosevelt America born kids ride hundreds…
Wow! This child and his parents must be going through the most horrifying experience. I hope our people will rally around the family in very trying times like these.
In at least one of the neighbouring islands, the government pays for the airlift and the hospitalization of children in emergency situation like this one. That’s A government that cares.
That $184 000 that was used from taxpayers’ money to transport the American born children of Roosevelt and Melissa, should be used in times like these.
I call on the government to act with dispatch by providing the much needed funds to try to save the precious life of this young child. Have some compassion man! Have a heart! As a nation we MUST care for the most vulnerable among us.
