Housing assistance and improved sporting facilities are among the several plans that Dominica Labour Party (DLP) candidate for the Roseau Valley constituency, Dr. Irving McIntyre, has outlined for the constituency if elected as parliamentary representative.
McIntyre said while speaking at his launch on Sunday that post-Hurricane Maria, $2.8 million dollars was used to assist residents of the Roseau Valley in housing repairs.
“As regards to housing in the Roseau Valley, many have been assisted in repairing their houses post-Maria and as a matter of fact, the constituency of the Roseau valley benefited from $2.8 million dollars for assistance for housing repairs, post-Maria, just in the year 2019. I will ensure that housing assistance continues for those affected by Hurricane Maria,” he said.
He added, “Housing projects which have already started in Cochrane and in Trafalgar will be completed during my term. We have also identified areas in villages of Laudat, Morne Prosper, Wotten Waven and Cochrane for building resilient apartments in those villages. Preliminary discussions have already been held with the contractors.”
As a former national sportsman, Dr. McIntyre says the development of sports in the Roseau valley remains very important to him and has made plans to improve the playing fields in the various communities.
“We see sports as a way of not only improving our health but also building self-confidence, community spirit, stress management and just general well being, but due to our high rainfall our playing fields are prone to being waterlogged,” he stated.
“I recently visited these fields with officials from the ministry of sports who recommended field drainage systems for these fields, supervised by engineers from the ministry of communication and works, thereby making it possible for high altitude training,” he revealed. “The Morne Prosper playing field has undergone significant expansion, drainage foundation, topsoil application and seed application. I intend to see further expansion of the Cochrane field and funding for lighting of this field is being sorted.”
He also said that if elected, he will ensure that the ongoing projects such as the Cochrane Highway, Wotten Waven Road, Morne Prosper Road and the drainage system phase two and also the Copthall road drainage system will be completed on time adding that with the new highway to Cochrane and the competition of the road from Cochrane to the Middleham Falls, will bring economic development and tourism activity for that particular village.
McIntyre said further that in Morne Prosper, a 40,000 gallon water tank project for the improvement of irrigation of farms has been funded and approved by the Basic Needs Trust Fund (BNTF) and the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) at a cost of $2.5 million dollars.
McIntyre has replaced the current parliamentary representative, his brother Collin, as the DLP candidate for the Roseau Valley.

My aunt is your patient and she made an appointment a month in advance when she showed up for her appointment she was told you won’t be in that day instead you was out campaigning. Sir your skills as a doctor would better serve our people. It’s a good thing my aunt have us in New York where we were able to bring her to see a doctor and she ended up having surgery. Sir if your brother and this administration didn’t accomplish what you are saying why should our people believe what you are promising.

A means to an end! Dr McIntyre understands very well what the people needs and wants are, yet for the past 15 years under the leadership of skerro, those needs and wants have been totally neglected. He has stepped down in order to become a developer off the backs of us Dominicans, via citizenship by investment program, showing exactly what he truly cares for most, his pocket! Now his brother comes with the exact same message and approach makes me wonder if he too will step down to become a developer? And what of the plight of the people? People need to realise what is really going on in this country!
Your brother and his party have been in “power” for how many years? You Irving, are seeing for yourself and saying that very little has been done in the valley under DLP and there is a lot more that needs to be done. Yet you expect the people of the valley to believe that you are here, now, to save the day? What you said at Cozier’s launching was right, people should not look at party colours but should vote for what’s best for them. What’s best for the people of Roseau Valley, and I hope they can see that, is to reject you and your brother and Skerrit. Valley people, vote for real change. Vote for real jobs, real roads, real markets for your farms, real assistance for your rebuilding. Right now you are only getting the busfare to come back next Wednesday!
Vote for a real party that is serious about development and serious about making people successful and wealthy. Vote for UWP Team Dominica. Even Dr. Irving himself is going to vote for UWP because UWP is seroius about health.

Nevertheless, he fail to disclose how many people got assistance; $2.8 million dollars is actually two million eight hundred thousand dollars.
So, let us assume that a thousand people (ten hundred people) got assistance, if we divide:$2,800,000.00 / 1,000 = $2,800.00.
Each person would receive two thousand ($2,800.00) eight hundred dollars.
Let him say how many people got assistance, only then one will discover the crap these people are talking, the higher the number of people assisted, the less amount of money they got!

It’s sad to see the players and platform of the UWP with nothing substantial, while the DLP are actually laying plans for the present and future. Certainly there are going to be disgruntled and unsatisfied people, but the DLP is staying focus. As a recently relocated Dominican and a undecided voter, there’s absolutely nothing interesting or substantive that the UWP is offering. What are you offering besides the MONEY that you don’t put there! How can we follow the UWP where they are always protesting? What are they doing to enhance the quality of life for Dominicans.

So he talks about housing, roads, sports . Doctor it was and is your brother Collin that’s parlrep and the same DlP and Skerrit that FAILED the people! Also not you but Collin that should talk about the $2.8 million dollars so he could account for it. But like Skerrit, since he cannot count or account Skerrit replaced him so he will not have to put Skerrit in trouble. So the DLP strategy is clear. They failed so to cover the mess they brought in new candidates to talk about new vision as if is a new leader they have. Example read the letter circulating from Laplane. The house in question is from Skerrit although it’s the same DlP candidate. In other words New candidates pretend to be independent while out going ones make Skerrit the hero.
