Chairman of the Government Housing Loans Board, Felix Thomas has announced that public officers on the island will be given assistance to renovate and complete their homes before the upcoming hurricane season.
“We realize that there are some public officers who have their homes in a certain condition, but because of their financial commitment they are unable to do a lot of the finishing work,” Thomas said on state-owned DBS Radio. “In light of the pending hurricane season, we realize that we cannot leave a house with an unfinished roof…,”
He said some of those that they have spoken to say they are constrained by commitments to other financial institutions.
Thomas also mentioned a Stay Loan Approach which he says has been developed.
“What we have done is to develop what we call the Stay Loan Approach. It’s almost like a freeze; give them new money, give them a new loan that they would not have to pay anything on that loan,” he explained. “That loan will just stay freeze or frozen for the period of time.”
Thomas explained that when these public officers have honoured their other financial commitments, within a reasonable time, “we will look at it and ensure that we work it out properly, and we have done this in the past.”
He said those clients will not be denied additional funds just because they are unable to afford it at the time the work needs to be done.
“We will give them those additional funds; freeze the payment on it and ensure that the work is done, the quality of the house, the safety of their house, the value of their house is improved,” Thomas stated.
You think there is such thing as an application and vetting process to verify the needs of each applicant, in existence?? You seem to have a lot of trust in your government and PM…! The vetting process is very simple, if you are a known DLP and Skerrit supporter the application is approved! Anybody else… to hell with you!

I challenge you to come forward to debate Lennox on any subject matter of your choice and in any forum of your choice if is man you man! and you can bring along Sherrit and whoever else you want to bring. Lets see you and Skerrit take on Lennox in public man on man, and on any of the allegation and accusations you have stated above. Stop hiding behind innuendos. With all what you stated above there a few questions I would like you to answer truthfully -who was in My Dominica Trade House cutting cake with Monfared ? was it lennox or was it Skerrit? and where is Monfared now? is he in Kemspenki Hotel or in an Iranian jail? What about Alison Maduke, Mr Chien Lapsen and others , were they Lintons friends or Skerrit’s and where are they ? Grand mother have a saying show me your friends and I will tell you who you are.
The idea of helping is commendable. However, an unrealistic statement was made when Mr. Thomas said money will be given to effect repairs before the start of the hurricane season; hurricane season starts in two weeks. It would have been nice if this money was made available last year or earlier this year which would have allowed for most, if not all, repairs completed before hurricane season’s advent, bearing in mind there is an application and vetting process to verify the needs of each applicant. I hope we have no storms this year and the repairs can be completed as soon as possible.
Public officers who are not part of the housing loan due to their age and buildings were damaged due to Maria. Yet cannot repair due to financial constraints. Government has given some materials. But do not have the money to pay for labour. What assistance can be given?
But what government housing loan he talking about nou? Skerrit using our passport money to build FREE houses for most laborites and now they talking about housing loan for public officers?
Man to be honest with you the only hope for Dominica is to legally divide the country in two:
In one part of the country is for laborites alone, where they work, they pay their taxes and Roosevelt Skerrit is their PM and Savarin is their president. That part of Dominica should be spelt Dumb-in-ica, so Skerrit could give them all of the “Go to hell” he has promised. I bet you he would not build house or give Covid-19 package to anyone because the only reason he doing it today is to keep us divided so he could remain in power.
The other part of the country is for UWp supporters alone, We pay our taxes, we work, we develop our country, we Make Hon. Lennox Linton our PM and either Bodo or Mr. Kent Vital our president. Our side of country should be called The nature isle .
And Dumb-in-a-can before which hurricane season he talking about nuh ?, the 2020 Hurricane Season done start already, its name is ARTHUR – A fuss Skerritites believe everybody is sot! they had all of three years after Hurricane Maria to set up all Public Officers if they really wanted too , they take so much MONEY TO BUY land AND to set up the Labour House in Roseau , and to run election campaign now at the eleventh hour they coming talking about oh how they know it have Public servants who want to and have to fix their roof! Well those kinds of Public Officers we have now are more loyal to their party than to themselves and their family so they do right treat them as last kakarat/ Boy I telling you straight is only in Dominica that foolishness can happen.
