Hunting season has officially commenced in Dominica and will run from September 22, 2025, through December 31, 2025.
Individuals who wish to hunt are required to hold a valid hunting license, said the Forestry, Wildlife, and Parks Division of the Ministry of Environment, Rural Modernization, Kalinago Upliftment, and Constituency Upliftment in its announcement.
Additionally, the sale and potential limited export of wildlife or its parts will be authorized from September 23, 2025, to January 31, 2026. Export permits will be required for any wildlife or parts thereof leaving the country, said the release. Based on these stipulations, after this period, the ministry emphasized that any persons caught engaging in the sale or export of wildlife without proper authorization will face legal action, including a fine of five thousand dollars (XCD 5,000) per offence.
As a reminder, said the statement, during the designated hunting season, licensed hunters are permitted to hunt specific species, including crabs from the Gercarcinidae family, agouti, and manicou (opossums).
The public is asked to take note that under the Forestry & Wildlife Act, hunting or fishing in freshwater streams without a valid license is illegal. Furthermore, hunting of all other species—such as frogs, birds, snakes, and iguanas—is strictly prohibited.
Anyone found participating in illegal hunting or fishing activities without appropriate licensing will be subject to a fine of two thousand five hundred dollars (XCD 2,500) per offence.
Hunting licenses and export permits can be purchased starting September 22, 2025, at the Forestry, Wildlife, and Parks Division office located on Windsor Park Link Road, as well as at the Sub-Treasuries in Portsmouth and Marigot.

Why do people scavenge for many of these animals some of them resembling large rats? If you can eat a manicou you can cook.and consume rat meat.Leave the innocent, harmless, indigenous creatures alone.
By the way, when will the pathological Lying Roosevelt return the national birds back to Dominica as was promised? Roosevelt is truly a compulsive Liar!
You disgusting self-important biggot – always attempting to make yourself look better than you are.
Now you preaching manicou lives matter?
There are people who grew up eating agouti, manicou even cat because they couldn’t afford better or had ACTUAL useful skills(hunting, cooking the ability to care for and provide for others). Some continue this out of tradition or practice of those learnt skills and practices and they are some of the most cleanly, responsible people and chefs you might ever meet. Some have more genuine dignity than you (I don’t eat these things personally but I’ve met a few people that are not lesser than me or you by any stroke).
All meat is some formerly living organisms dead flesh that immediately begins to rot. You think your dead flesh eating practices are better than someone else’s?
The answer is obviously yes, Mr. self appointed King of DNO.
Your long, meandering diatribe is just nonsensical. You got your super sensitive, eggshell ego bruised so you are trying to retaliate. I’m completely immune to your frivolous attacks. it’s like water running off a ducks back. Try as hard as you may you can’t quake me. Bring it on!
“Try as hard as you may you can’t quake me. Bring it on!”
You are a stubborn narcissistic jack@ss I’m under no delusion you will change, you will likely double and triple down just like certain famous political leaders….
The problem with spewing your crap all over place is that you might hit the wrong person.
I made the following comment that had nothing to do with you. Here is the comment:
“wow every man jack and woman jack flocking to the political stories even American racism more interesting but a youth finds himself in this situation and no one cares…wow”
on a story about a death of the 16 year old.
Your ego is so massive that you felt compelled to respond to me saying its none of my damn business. You are a weak silly tyrant. I’ve seen your ridiculous hypocritical posts everywhere on DNO but didnt bother to respond, now i’m going to call u out for what u are and keep responding to you just as you exercise ur right to comment…free speech jack@ss.
