Last night, Hurricane Tammy was expected to cause severe damage to the twin islands of Antigua and Barbuda.
However, when it landed on Barbuda, its impact was relatively minor. While Antigua experienced moderate winds, Barbuda encountered powerful gusts, leading to a complete power outage.
The hurricane’s strength increased as it approached Barbuda, reaching Category 1 hurricane conditions by 9 pm.
The hurricane’s eye arrived on Barbuda at 9:15 pm, bringing estimated maximum sustained wind speeds of 85 mph, along with heavy rains and strong winds.
Despite this, Barbuda residents’ preparedness and the island’s resilience helped them weather the storm with relative ease, with reports showing only instances of flooding and damage to trees and utility lines.
Meanwhile, Antigua residents were fortunate to escape the hurricane’s impact, and the Hurricane warning for Antigua was lifted at 11 pm.
However, a flood watch remains in effect for both Barbuda and Antigua due to the possibility of flooding caused by rainbands moving northward.
I do hope that the dredging of waterways and keeping them clear will be emphasized. Bon.
Landfall on Barbados? The only caribbean island she made landfall on (the EYE touching down) was Barbuda. Please correct this.
