ICC Men’s T20 World Cup introduces innovative Media Hub in Barbados for Super 8 and knockout stage

The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 Media Hub, powered by C&W Business, is welcoming local and traveling media to utilize its top-notch facilities during the Super 8 and Knockout stages of the event. This innovative remote media hub, a first of its kind for the ninth edition of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, is situated in Barbados and is accessible to accredited media throughout the event. Designed for media who may not be able to attend all matches across the Caribbean, this fully equipped hub offers a centralized location for media to engage in various opportunities during the event, including integrated press conferences.

Located at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Conference Centre in Two Mile Hill, St. Michael, Barbados, this facility spans 10 acres and can accommodate up to 200 media personnel. The media hub operates daily from 08:00 am to midnight (Barbados time).

According to a Cricket West Indies statement, key features of the media hub include a press conference room for virtual participation in live post-match press conferences, high-speed broadband internet with a minimum speed of 200Mbps for both upload and download, an open plan viewing area with ergonomic seating for 200 media members, large viewing screens, real-time technical support, an indoor food court offering a variety of local and international cuisine, and a relaxation zone.

In addition to serving as a hub for media coverage, this unique facility is also being utilized to engage and educate aspiring media professionals. Recently, 19 students from secondary and tertiary institutions in Barbados visited the media hub to gain insights into journalism, digital media, broadcast, and event management careers. Another tour for students is scheduled for Monday, 24 June.

Fawwaz Baksh, the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 Tournament Director, expressed enthusiasm about the remote media hub, highlighting its significance as the first of its kind for an ICC World Cup event:

“This is the first time a remote media hub has been created for an ICC World Cup event, and it is great to see it come to life in Barbados, with journalists from across the world using the hub to report on games from across the tournament, while enjoying other features at the hub such as a real time virtual participation in press conferences happening in different locations, a relaxation zone, interview opportunities with past and present players and cultural entertainment, like only the Caribbean can do.”
