The capacity of the Dominica Infirmary to deliver empathetic and comprehensive care received a notable boost today through a generous contribution of vital medical and comfort supplies from the Guadeloupe-based NGO, Espoir Santé. Valued at over 30,000 euros, according to a press release, this donation highlights an increasingly collaborative relationship between the two neighboring islands.
The formal handover ceremony was held on the morning of Friday, August 18, during which the Infirmary’s Director officially received the donated items from representatives of Espoir Santé. The process was coordinated via the NGO’s local partner, Lifeline Ministries, with the participation of its representative, McCarthy Marie.
This sizable contribution comprises a diverse array of essential items carefully prepared and shipped from Guadeloupe. The supplies are intended to improve mobility, enhance medical treatment, and increase daily comfort for the residents of the Infirmary. Notable items include:
– Mobility Support Devices: Six wheelchairs, three walkers, and 14 canes.
– Patient Care Equipment: Two toilet chairs, one bath chair, an examination table, three blood collection chairs, infusion poles, and a specialized anti-decubitus mattress to prevent bedsores.
– Orthopedic Supports: Over 170 braces and splints for knees, backs, ankles, shoulders, necks, and other joints.
– Medical Supplies: More than 78 urine collection bags, hundreds of examination gloves, protective aprons, compression stockings, blood pressure monitors and cuffs, as well as specula.
– Comfort and Hygiene Items: Adult diapers, mattress covers, sheets, positioning cushions, and a large stock of hygiene and incontinence care kits.
Expressing deep appreciation, the Infirmary’s Director, Clannis Jno Baptiste, emphasized the significance of the donation.
“This remarkable gesture of regional solidarity is immensely valuable to us,” she said. “This equipment addresses specific, critical needs we have in providing dignified and effective care for our residents. It will directly improve
their quality of life and ease the workload of our dedicated staff. We cannot thank Espoir Santé enough for their generosity and foresight.”
McCarthy Marie, representing Espoir Santé, underscored the organization’s ongoing dedication to regional cooperation.”For Espoir Santé, supporting our neighbours in the Caribbean is not a one-time event but a continuous mission,” Marie remarked.
“This is our second donation to Dominica this year, and we are happy to see this partnership with Lifeline Ministries
flourishing. We are confident these supplies will be put to immediate good use serving the vulnerable.”
This latest act of generosity represents the second initiative by Espoir Santé within Dominica this year, reflecting its steadfast commitment to bolstering healthcare and social services on the island. The continued partnership aims to strengthen humanitarian ties across the French and English-speaking Caribbean. Infirmary officials confirmed that the equipment would be incorporated into daily operations without delay.
