Jael Joseph has announced the relaunch of BlackIslandGirl.com, a multimedia platform designed to serve a diverse range of interests and communities. Initially established in 2021 as Joseph’s capstone project at Toronto Metropolitan University (previously known as Ryerson University), Black Island Girl, according to Ms Joseph, has been transformed into a multifaceted digital platform that embodies her vision for representation, storytelling, and empowerment.
The updated website includes various content categories such as Beauty, Business, Culture, Entertainment, Health and Wellness, Politics, and a special segment called “The BIG Feature,” which highlights in-depth stories and profiles. Additionally, the new “What’s New” section allows event organizers to promote their upcoming events.
A notable aspect of this relaunch is the platform’s enhanced focus on multimedia content. Under the umbrella of Black Island Girl Multimedia, Joseph has also premiered her first film, Territory, a compelling short documentary that has gained international recognition.
Territory received nominations at multiple film festivals and won the award for Best Short Documentary at the 2023 Caribbean Tales International Film Festival.
