The University of the West Indies (The UWI) Global Campus is set to host its Virtual Graduation Ceremony for the Class of 2025.  During this event, Mr. Alex Anderson, graduate earning a Bachelor of Education (BEd) in Educational Leadership and Management with First Class Honours, will serve as the valedictorian representing his graduating cohort.

Hailing from Montego Bay in St. James, Anderson is a committed educator with eight years of experience teaching at the primary level indicated a UWI press release.

The UWI reports that throughout his career, he has been dedicated to fostering confidence, curiosity, and academic achievement among his students. His passion for student-centered teaching methods and his strong belief in education as a means for personal growth continually inspire both his pupils and colleagues.

Anderson’s academic pursuits began in Canada, where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Waterloo in 2012. Eager to deepen his expertise, he later enrolled in The UWI Global Campus in 2020 to pursue a Bachelor of Education in Educational Leadership and Management. His combination of practical classroom experience and academic study has strengthened his resolve to promote transformative, student-focused educational practices.

His educational philosophy goes beyond traditional academic standards. For Mr. Anderson, teaching is a vocation rooted in helping students uncover their potential and develop critical thinking skills vital for success beyond school walls.

He often reflects on Walter Elliot’s words: “Perseverance is not a long race; it is many short races one after the other,” which captures his approach to overcoming personal and professional obstacles.

As per the release, his vision for education emphasizes nurturing creativity and critical thinking, aiming to prepare students for an ever-changing world. He finds profound fulfillment in witnessing students’ growth, turning effort into achievement and curiosity into confidence.

Outside the classroom, Mr. Anderson’s interests include football, travel, music, and cooking—passions cultivated through shared experiences with his mother in their family kitchen.

He draws inspiration from Philippians 2:3-4, which emphasizes valuing others and living with integrity and purpose.

Looking ahead, Anderson hopes to contribute to creating educational environments that equip students not only for academic success but also for life’s challenges. His goal is to foster classrooms that prioritize innovation and critical thinking, ensuring every learner is empowered to thrive in a dynamic global landscape.

As is tradition, Anderson will deliver the Valedictory Speech on behalf of his peers during the virtual graduation ceremony.

Dr. Francis O. Severin, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Principal, expressed his pride, noting that “… this honour serves as a motivation for other teachers, principals, education officers, and educators generally, whose work and efforts too often go unrecognized, and who certainly must depend for their everyday ‘fuel’ on intrinsic satisfaction and the accomplishments of their students, rather than on pecuniary or monetary rewards.”

The UWI’s senior management team said it joins in celebrating his outstanding achievement and wishes him continued success in his future endeavors.

The release urged members of the university community—including staff, students, alumni, and friends—to join the ceremony, which will be broadcast live on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at 6:00 pm Eastern Caribbean Time via UWItv.global, Facebook Live, Flow EVO channels, and the Flow’s Bluu mobile app.
