Jamaican national jailed for escaping from Antigua immigration center

Tiffanie Stephanie Howell

On Tuesday, a Jamaican woman named Tiffanie Stephanie Howell was sentenced to seven months in jail by the All Saints Magistrate Court. Howell had been on the run for the past week and had surrendered to the Immigration Department on Sunday.

She appeared before Magistrate Ngaio Emmanuel for sentencing. Howell had been charged with the crime of escaping lawful custody. She had escaped from the Immigration Department’s Detention Centre, along with another Jamaican national named Donnalee Samantha Salmon, on January 20. They had broken a bathroom window to escape.

Howell had pleaded guilty to the charge, which carries a maximum sentence of one year in jail. The authorities are still searching for Salmon and have appealed to the public for assistance in locating her.

Salmon is described as being dark in complexion, around 5 feet 6 inches tall, with a slim build, and weighing approximately 125 pounds.

The authorities have warned the public not to aid, shelter, or approach her. Anyone with information about Salmon’s whereabouts should contact the Immigration Enforcement Unit.
