Colorful, bright, creative, and beautiful Chapo Pay pieces were on display in Roseau as Dominica celebrated Joune Chapo Pay Day yesterday.
A chapo pay is a traditional handmade straw hat for men, women, and children decorated with madras or other accessories. Joune Chapo Pay Day forms part of the 2024 Independence calendar of activities as Dominica celebrates its 46th anniversary of Independence under the theme, “Péyi Nou, Kado Nou.”
Dominica News Online(DNO) captured some of the beautiful Chapo Pay on display on that day.

When all you writing all you so called creole/patois, TRY TO WRITE THE PROPER WORDS AS SOME OF THEM ARE ACTUALLY FRENCH. The word is not “Pay”. the word is PAILLE. if you type this word in google, you will clearly see dried leaves and grass, which is what the hats are made out of. they arent made from pay. what they hell is pay? Pay as you go? Pay-day chocolate? Write that down for next year DNO.. the word is PAILLE. it is a French word that means STRAW.
ADMIN: Dominican Kwéyòl has its own spelling and pronunciation that is much different from french.
You can see for yourself by downloading Dominica’s Konmité Pou Etid Kwéyòl dictionary from this link: https://annas-archive.org/slow_download/5474c44c95a0fc6a34e5c51e3ea03831/0/0
the word is PAY. It is a Kweyol word and not a French word. SMH.
think of the word Twavay- vay is pronounced the same say as pay. Stop trying to anglosize the language.
And DNO take time to be consistent. In the same article you have the word spelt two different ways. It is CHAPO PAY.
