In recognition of her extraordinary accomplishments Julien Alfred, Saint Lucia’s celebrated Olympia, was greeted on September 24, with an enthusiastic reception upon her return home for the first time since her historic performance at the Paris Olympics, where she secured both gold and silver medals.
During the event honoring Alfred, Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre commended her for exemplifying the resilience and ambition that are cherished by the people of Saint Lucia. According to Pierre, this is a vital chance to rekindle the country’s national pride.
“Julien’s recent achievements at the Olympic Games transcend sports. They have been a source of inspiration to all St. Lucians, especially our youth,” Pierre noted.
Alfred, who will be in St Lucia for a few days, will be recognized with a national holiday ‘Julien Alfred Day’ on September 27.
Acknowledging the unwavering support from her village, Alfred said at the rousing reception “I’m truly lost for words.”
