Karifuna Cultural Group statement claims misuse of name on Ti Vilaj Kreyol flyer

The Karifuna Cultural Group has expressed deep dissatisfaction concerning what it says is the misapplication of its name in promotional materials for the upcoming Ti Vilaj Kreyol 2025 event, titled “Tout Biten Domnik.” In a written statement, the group emphasized that the flyer promoting the event erroneously included their name, an issue that has caused considerable concern.

According to the group, the issue is aggravated by the fact that the mistake was identified as early as October 17, 2025. They claim that despite promptly notifying the event organizers about the error, no corrective measures were taken to address or amend the misrepresentation.

Founded in 1978, the Karifuna Cultural Group, which identifies itself as being dedicated to the preservation and promotion of Kalinago traditions, highlighted the importance of safeguarding its reputation. They argue that over the decades, they have built a credible brand rooted in authentic portrayals of Kalinago culture. As outlined in the statement, misuse of their name, especially in relation to a prominent event that draws hundreds of attendees, compromises their integrity and the standards they uphold.

The group also characterized the organizers’ actions as “unprofessional and disrespectful”, underscoring the seriousness of the oversight. They have called for a formal acknowledgment of the mistake and an official apology. Furthermore, they are demanding that the organizers take immediate steps to correctly identify the actual performers representing the Kalinago heritage at the event.
