Kavem Hodge, the 31-year-old Dominican batman, played a pivotal role on the second day of the Second Rothesay Test at Trent Bridge. His maiden century for the West indies defied England and breathed life into the tourists’ campaign.
Hodge, playing only his fourth Test match, capitalized on an early chance from a drop catch by Joe Root at slip, going on to make an impressive 120 runs. Supported by Alick Athanaze (82), Hodge stitched together a crucial 175-run partnership for the fourth wicket.
England, without the services of James Anderson and Stuart Broad, toiled hard in the field. Mark Wood’s lightning-fast bowling enthralled the crowd, but he had to leave the field later due to cramp. Despite England’s efforts, their total of 416 in the first innings was not unassailable.
The West Indies, inspired by Hodge’s character and determination, reached 351-5 by the end of the day, trailing England by 65 runs. Hodge celebration by leaping into the arms of batting partner Jason Holder upon reaching his century, was something to behold.
Hodge’s Test hundred has set the stage for an interesting encounter at Trent Bridge as West Indies aim to level the series.
The very same INCONSISTENCY that i spoke/wrote about in my earlier post.
Both players ended up failing MISERABLY in the second innings:
Hodge 0
Athanaze 1 .
An inconsistent will only be a mediocre player.
Thank you to Mr.Israel Fontaine for training and moulding Kaveem to always aim for the top to be the cricketer he is today. Thanks to Cavaliers Cricket Team for pushing Kaveem and thanks to the positive Dominican supporters who have always believed in him.Lets hope his century will give West Indies a win.
congratulations go out to you and Alick. you guys sure made DA proud. enjoy every moment of this because many of us can only dream. keep giving your best.
Congratulations to you Kavem Hodge! Unfortunately you got out on 120, the same score as Irving Shillingford, on March 19, 1977 came back to mind. Also want to congratulate Arthanaze for his first test fifty and his 82. When you joined Athanaze at 3-84, we were in trouble but a 175 run partnership with him put us back in the game
When Irving got his 120, we had a good government and cricket was played all over in Dominica, including backyards, beach, substandard playing fields etc. Unfortunately for you we have a bad government that doesn’t care about cricket. and the future of young men. As a result there’s been absolutely no cricket in Dominica the last 10 yrs and though I wish your century and partnership would motivate our young people to play cricket, unfortunately our government has replaced cricket with the legalization of weed, alcohol and fete so that won’t happen. I hope this is the beginning of great things to come for both you, Arthanaze, Louis and the entire team.
What a relief! This is certainly a feel good story amidst all the stress ad decadence grappling the country. Massive congratulations to Kaven for achieving his maiden test century.
We should also shower Alick Athanaze for his splendid knock of 82 runs. These guys have made not only all Dominicans proud but the whole Caribbean also. This proves that once Dominicans vast a chance to perform, they usually push above their weight.
Want to urge these two patriots to continue striving for excellence. This is only the beginning of more big things to come.
congrats well done , also congrats must go out to athanaze for a magnificent 82 , bright future for both son of the soil on the west indies side and cricket in future
keep it up
Congrats to you my brother! It was a great inning and very good partnership with Athanaze who I also thought would get his too. But truly I congratulate both of you.
I know Skerrit them going to give both of you a hero’s welcome with red carpet and might even want to give you the keys to the airport, for his corrupt political agenda , but we shall not be fooled as we all know that at a time when three Dominicans are on the test eleven, the destroyer of our young people so badly destroyed sports and young people, that at time like this cricket is a dead game in Dominica, except in the Carib territory. You can’t see men on any ground practicing cricket as the hypocrite Skerrit, his square pegs in round hole sports Minister and Nathan completely destroyed the sport here. Not only that, but I remember when Irving shillingford scored his 120, Dominicans were glued to DBS to support Irving. Today with 3 Dominicans on the test team absolutely no cricket coverage. what a shame
The only thing i am asking from you, Mr Hodge is CONSISTENCY. I keep watching.

If every TWO test matches you can exceed 50 runs in one innings, your future will be good, especially if you can convert the 50runs to a hundred.
Athanaze has finally scored a 50 runs.Congrats! Time to score big brother! It’s high time. You have the ability to break this cycle of low scores.
