The Dominica Athletics Association (DAA)’s Kids’ Athletics Festival, is set to occur on Friday, August 30, 2024, at 9:00 AM at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium. This festival will mark the conclusion of the four-week DAA Kids’ Athletics Summer Grassroots Program, designed to nurture athletic abilities and encourage healthy lifestyles among children in the community.
Under the direction of the DAA, the festival will offer a variety of engaging activities aimed at introducing children to the basic principles of athletics. The program is aligned with the World Athletics Kids’ Athletics framework, ensuring that the activities are both informative and enjoyable, thereby instilling a lasting passion for the sport.
The DAA Kids’ Athletics Summer Grassroots Program has been an initiative focused on making athletics accessible and enjoyable for young children. Throughout this program, approximately 175 children aged 4 to 14 participated, with sessions held three days a week across six clubs on the island. The initiative aims to lay a solid foundation for aspiring athletes and to cultivate young talents who may follow in the footsteps of notable athletes such as Thea Lafond-Gadson, Dennick Luke, and Trenesse Hamilton.
The Kids’ Athletics Festival is also expected to inspire the next generation of athletes, as Olympic Gold medalist Mrs. Thea Lafond-Gadson will be in attendance at the event.
