Popular Dominican Calypsonian Dennison ‘King Dice’ Joseph has announced decisively that he will not be participating in the Calypso Monarch competition in 2026. The 10-time Calypso Monarch took to his social media over the weekend with the bombshell announcement.
Having nabbed his last title in 2024, King Dice conceded his crown to reigning monarch Joy ‘Joy’ Stoute in 2025. He walked away with the first runner-up position.
Insinuating that his performance at the 2025 Calypso Finals was not fairly received, King Dice explained, “The performance was there, the song was on point, the presentation was on point.” He asked his followers where he went wrong, before adding cryptically, “Calypso is Canaval, not church.”
Declining to provide further context, Dice went on to apologize to his fans, declaring that he will not be throwing his hat in the ring for 2026. He concluded by sharing his thoughts on the judging process, saying that performances and songs should be judged, not the person behind them.
He also urged his fans to look out for new releases from him in the near future.

Two or more things can absolutely be true at the same time. In this case, taking a break from competition can definitely be a good reset move while humbly conceding that you lost the 2025 crown fair and square.

“Calypso is Canaval, not church.” Calypso is used to tell stories, share news, and comment on social or political issues. It is humorous and clever, calypso is cultural memory, resistance, and freedom expressed through rhythm and words. So calypso can be church and calypso can be canaval. While King Dice will be missed by many, Calypso/Kaiso will be in good hands in 2026.

You mean Pat Aaron haven’t got any more recycled anti-Skerrit lyrics for Dice to sing this year? If Dice wrote his own lyrics and composed his own songs he would probably be a better calypsonian. And maybe people would remember his calypso’s once carnival is over. Dice is only a carnival artist because Pat only write lyrics for carnival. Having said this, I think that this duo should receive some national recognition for their longevity in the field of calypso spanning all those years they participated. Dominica calypso competition won’t be the same without Dicey.
King Dice I am one of your most ardent fans. Some of your compositions are legendary. Having Saud that, the reason for your boycott of the 2026 Calypso Show is selfish. Looks like your EGO has gotten the better of you.
You have definitely grown too arrogant. Humble yourself. The present monarch richly deserves to wear the crown. There was no foul play here. Stop creating controversy where there should be none. You are entitled to your opinion not to the crown.
Before him there was calypso and after him there will still be. One man is NOT calypso

You’re entitled to your decision, however, don’t insinuate that the lady didn’t deserve the crown. Her performance was epic and she has material that can capture another crown at the upcoming Regional competition. Be humble! All the best to you!
