Quincy Jones, a monumental figure in the American entertainment industry, has passed away at the age of 91. His publicist, Arnold Robinson, confirmed that Jones died on Sunday evening at his residence in Bel Air, Los Angeles, surrounded by his loved ones. Renowned for his remarkable versatility, Jones is celebrated as one of the most influential pop cultural icons of the 20th century, particularly for his groundbreaking work in the 1980s with Michael Jackson on his iconic solo albums which propelled Jackson to unprecedented heights of fame. The duo’s collaboration on the record-breaking album Thriller, which remains the best-selling album of all time, exemplifies Jones’ extraordinary talent.

In addition to his legendary collaborations with Jackson, Jones’s extensive career included producing music for a diverse array of artists such as Frank Sinatra, Aretha Franklin, and Donna Summer. He was not only a prolific music producer but also a talented composer of numerous film scores and a successful recording artist in his own right. Jones’s contributions to music spanned various genres, showcasing his skills as a bandleader in big band jazz and an accomplished arranger for jazz luminaries like Count Basie. His production company, established in 1990, achieved significant acclaim with the hit sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, and he continued to push creative boundaries into his 80s with the launch of Qwest TV, a music-focused on-demand service, in 2017.

Jones’s legacy is further highlighted by his impressive accolades, including 80 Grammy nominations, placing him third behind Beyoncé and Jay-Z, and 28 Grammy wins, making him one of the most awarded artists in the history of the Grammys.  Additionally, Jones played a pivotal role in the creation of the charity single We Are the World in 1985, alongside Jackson, Lionel Richie, and producer Michael Omartian, which raised significant funds for famine relief efforts in Ethiopia.
