Dear Editor,
It has been some time now since standpipes were erected in Roseau together with a promise of attendants, soap and towels so that persons could wash their hands frequently. This was one of the government’s initiatives to help curb the spread of COVID-19.
I note, however, that to date, there are only the pipes; neither soap nor attendants. In fact, just this morning, a vagrant was seen washing something at the standpipe located at the corner of Kennedy Avenue and Independence Street.
I think the authorities should provide clarification on this at the soonest.
Covid concerned.
Dominicans are now accepting entilement as the norm.
They give you water, you want attendant, soap and towel. While you at it why not ask for lotion, nail file and nail clippers? Yes sa some domnichen! Zor pas azay. You Roseau dwivaying, buy a soap!! Those businesses you support do not provide those services. What is your obligation to yourself? Nothing?

I think the installation of public taps to give anyone free access to water is a very good thing. Most other countries, or all other countries I know of, have removed these public access to water where a person may wash their hands or get a drink. This is more so now that stores are selling bottled water, some restaurants and stores don’t even give you water or provide access anymore, you have to buy.
The soap and towel is a different matter. A refillable soap dispenser and paper dispenser may be OK, but is very likely to get damaged and crate even more garbage with the paper.
I am thankful for the water itself. The soap and paper is not a necessity in my opinion.
That should have been your comment when the government said they were going to PROVIDE these things.

people were giving me fire when i said the job they did with those sinks was sub standard and a slap in the face of the dominican public. Jobs for the boys, and you expect quality work and plenty foresight? please, dominica that there. .
Dominican is an entitled society. Why should the government provide attendants, soap and towels for you to wash your hands. What next?

So much complaining that is irrelevant. Why not give thanks to God the out of 16 who were infected with this virus 13 of them have recovered.
I would not want to use a towel that someone else might have used, the water is there, why not walk with your own soap and towel–this is so simple. Instead of making a whole spile of noise for such a simple thing.
You missed the dam point or you pretending. The government promised this and rushed to put stand pipes and promised the soap, towels and attendants.
They should have realized this was not practical and never install the pipes in the first place. What a waste of money!
@My Two Cents, that is what I said: The “damp point” is irrelevant. You people are always making an issue about nothing; always looking for a reason to complain because you all’s mind cannot receive and produce nothing that is positive.
But who made that promise? Don’t you know it was prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit that made that promise or are you scared to call his name so DNO does not publish your article?
As for me I only believe what Jesus said and here is something he said that I believe: John 8:44

So anytime a promise was made by Satan himself or one of his disciples I simply treat it as a lie because there is no truth in anything Satan says period.
These stand pipes will be the cause of the next disease to spread through Dominica after coronavirus. Generally, public pipes are the main culprit in the spread of all water born diseases which was why they were removed in Dominica, and why you do not find them in developed countries. They are usually nasty, dirty, filthy and unsanitary. You just watch, wait and you will see. Mark my words.
This Skerrit led government does things purely for selfish political gain. Nothing is well thought out. It’s an administration that only talks to itself. Inclusivity is much better than exclusivity in any organization. This is the epitome (the perfect example) of a Kakistocracy ( government by the WORST ). If I were to grade this government for their performance, with A+ being the highest grade, they will get -Z.

Good idea but practical soap maybe would you wipe your hands in a towel someone else just used say a stranger? As Trump would say it was just a joke!!
Fox, normally I would say you are a pain in the derrière but I must agree with you this time. Just touching that tap, leave alone drink from it. Where is the soap, poor people that use it to do their laundry would take it and you are right, if you use a towel to dry your hands that is the best way to spread disease. That idea was not well thought out in the first place but government owns Dowasco 100% and whatever the boss says happen. Now the P.M. can blame Etinoff if he wants but Etinoff has no say. It was an ill conceived p.r. stunt that had the P.M.’s blessing. You would not use a public toilet now, would you So why use a public tap?
Do like Trump suggested, if infected just drink some Lysol or Pine sol and take a shot of Clorox. When the bars open just order a shot of Lysol mixed with Pine sol chaser.
Of course it’s single use towels that are needed (and that were promised).
Until we STOP running our mouths on Matt in the morning and Talk on the block (God bless him) and do what we are called to do as patriots without fear we will continue this mad descent into the abyss……SMH and waiting for the call as always!
Matt is a woolly rhinoceros that lose his horn. This morning he come with some banana story, like a parable and does not understand that this is a message that we must be grateful for anything Skerrit gives us because without him we would not have anything in the first place. He must understand that what Skerrit gets he does so on behalf of us and is not for him to keep. Matt is lazy and does not do any homework. He is not a serious reporter that is why Skerrit tolerate him.
