The five contestants for the 2025 Bel Matador Domnik competition being introduced at the cultural showcase in New Jersey
The formal introduction of five promising young contestants to an engaged audience served to fan the flames of excitement surrounding the 2025 Bel Matador Dominik. Organized by ADNExUS, the Association of Dominicans in the Northeast USA, the 2025 Bel Matador Dominik competition is anticipated to be a significant event in the cultural calendar, showcasing the talents, intellect, and poise of young Dominican women. This event aims to not only honor individual accomplishments but also foster community connections, and encourage cultural exchange.
Dominican cultural heritage was interwoven throughout the showcase and dance party which launched the contestants on Saturday, September 21. The event was held at the Italian American Club in Scotch Plains, New Jersey.
More than 220 participants attended to support the following contestants, who are set to compete in the upcoming contest :
– Camille Sergenton, 17, representing Marigot – Michelle Williams, 21, representing Giraudel – Vernelle Williams, 16, representing Delices – Talia Coryat, 23, representing Soufriere and St. Joseph – Liana Rose David, 14, representing Wesley
These young women reflect the cultural richness and spirit of their communities. As they prepare for the main event scheduled for September 2025, they will act as cultural ambassadors, promoting the vibrant heritage of Dominica.
Sylma Brown, president of ADNExUS, expressed enthusiasm about introducing these contestants to a supportive audience, stating, “We are thrilled to introduce these exceptional contestants to a receptive and encouraging public.”
“Their enthusiasm and dedication to preserving and celebrating Dominican culture is truly inspiring. We encourage everyone to support these young ladies as they embark on this exciting journey,” she added.
The cultural showcase and dance party featured presentations of Dominican folk traditions, including performances by the young dancers from Know Our Culture, as well as lively acts from Jing Ping and Colihaut Boyz Lapo Kabwitt. DJ Bolo and special guest Leroy “Wadix” Charles contributed to the festive atmosphere, delivering a dynamic mix of local and regional music that energized the crowd.
