Linton describes as ‘inspiring’ defiant decision by students to march at national youth rally

Opposition Leader Linton takes the salute from students who defied the Ministry of Education decision to not march at National Youth Rally

Opposition Leader, Lennox Linton has sought to explain why he endorsed students who went against the command of the Ministry of Education and decided to participate in the National Youth Rally on Friday.

Linton said it had nothing to do with politics; instead, he wanted to show support for the students.

Even after the Ministry of Education cancelled Friday’s rally due to inclement weather, students of the Dominica State College and Pierre Charles Secondary School marched independently.

“I was observing that and while they were chanting “we want to march, we want to march” the prime minister and his family were leaving the park and the other members of the government were leaving with the prime minister as well…and some of the children decided that they wanted to march,” Linton said in an interview on Q95.

The Opposition Leader said he wasn’t going to stand there and not support the young persons after the unreasonable decision taken by the Ministry of education to not allow the students to march.

Furthermore, he said the students practiced “long and hard, no matter the conditions of the weather”.

Linton explained that when he saw students beginning to march, he decided to take their salute being the highest-ranking parliamentarian left in the stadium.

“When the prime minister and parliament had turned their backs on the students… I decided as a show of symbolism, for their independent action and decision, I would stand there for the couple of contingents that decided to march past and take their salute.”

He said it was very inspiring for him as a leader looking at young children being independent in mind and spirit.

Joseph John and Elizabeth Xavier you two are the most ignorant lack of knowledge people to write comments on DNO.
If you say the people named in the following were not involved into politics; it is because you do not know what the word politics entails!
Harriet Tubman was an American abolitionist and political activist. Born into slavery, Tubman escaped and subsequently made some 13 missions to rescue approximately 70 enslaved people, including family and friends, using the network of antislavery activists and safe houses known as the Underground Railroad.

What is crazy is that many youth will still blindly vote on behalf of the PM. Then blame the government for the lack of change opportunities or even a chance to be heard. Sometimes we are so scared of change that we are willing to kill ourselves slowly because that is all we know.

Something is wrong with Labourites. I am not even trying to be funny or rude or anything. It is an observation I have made from the asinine comments they make on DNO to their uncouth behavior in public. I am calling this disease Skerrititis, until I have concluded my research.

“Whooaa Hon Linton We are proud of you This is the kind of leadership and action that we want to see–

Viewsexpress are you serious? Is this the kind of mentality in Lennox Linton, which brought you all to admire him so much?

How can you accept “disobedience” and “disrespect” in the behavior of a man, who is vying for the “Highest Seat” of Government?

What is the reason that you guys want Dominicans to accept this “negative” and “dark-minded” person as their Prime Minister?

The man was even bold in his acceptance of the children’s conduct, to say that it “inspired” him.

Well if you all do not know who motivated the “inspiration” know that it was not from the Hoy Spirit of God.

His “founding” command to His ancient people–the then Israelites, was that they should “obey” to live; or “disobey” and die

Of course, the Israelites miserably failed obedience and they received the verdict of death

I feel so, so sorry for you, guys.

      Really?
Didn’t they practise long and hard when you called upon them in 2013 or whenever you took up leadership to defy the authorities and not attend the youth rally?

That was one of your first acts as leader of your party. What was the reason then? Who had turned their backs on them at that time? What was inspiring about your action then?

Sir, you are walking a dangerous path. In case no one has told you so, you keep insulting the intelligence of Dominicans. This was not a political action on your part? Sir it was DESPERATELY political.

At every turn, you keep demonstrating your anxiety to be Prime Minister. From going around with body guards to travelling to CARICOM meetings uninvited; to asking the PM to step aside when he offered you an opportunity to sit in Cabinet in 2015. Not sure what you were expecting to do had he done so, as there is a constitutional process to appoint a Prime Minister.
This defiance of authority will come back to haunt you sir.

      November 5, 2019

So Eggleston born and bread, you are saying that:
1: It was Lennox who called off the march pass because he was too tired?
2: It was Lennox who told the Prime Minister and his cabinet to leave?
3: It was Lennox who told the children to defy the Organizers and march?
But I understand, You are angry because
1: The Youth of this country recognizes true leadership.
2: That the Youth Saluted Lennox Linton and not Skeritt
3: That Skerrit and his cabal passed like fools.

Now I understand why you so angry.

  14. Eagle-Eyed
    November 4, 2019

Linton, it had everything to do with politics when you decided to stand there and take the salute from a group of students who defied the authorities when they were told that the march-pass was cancelled due to risk of injury to the children. You deliberately put those children at risk for your own political expedience. It would only take one child to slip and injure themselves and you would have been in hot water. A risk assessment was done and it was decided that it might have been too risky for the children to injure themselves on the soggy ground, it wasn’t your call to over-rule this decision and encourage the children to put themselves at the risk of harm. This just goes to show how little you know about leadership. It might be useful to you to enroll on the Youth Division Leadership courses. You are definitely not fit to run for the highest office in the land. I can only see mayhem if you happen to get elected as PM.

    • Jack Sparrow
      November 5, 2019

Eagled-Eyed, you are suffering from cataract.
Let us state some facts here.
1: If the Grounds were too soggy to march, why were they allowed to sign and perform before?
2: Lennox did not encourage the children to march they were spurred on by their colleauges.
3: After the Primeminister ignored the children’s request to march and disrespected them by leaving, Lennox stayed.
The March pass and Salute signifies a measure of respect, and our youth showed the world who they respected because respect is earned not demanded.

Nobody turned their backs, the rally was dismissed. And as these student who pretend to be soldiers matching they should learn to respect authority. However, I understand why the students decided to march because they are children, but i can’t get why the adult Linton would disobey the instructions of the ministry. Linton please find help before its too late. You shouldn’t have allow these students salute you like you are some authority figure hahah. That’s like Jinxing yourself man. SMH.

Good weed, your name says it all.
First of all the Primeminister and his cabal, left, even after the loud chants of “we want to march!” This was utter disrespect for those children who have been practicing for weeks to fulfill an important gesture in our independence celebrations, they did not march because they are children.
What instructions did Lennox disobey? Were any instructions given to him?
You see Good weed, you have grown to accept a dictatorial, military-style of governance, where freedom speech and actions are suppressed and where one man rules.
However, on the other hand, Lennox Linton promotes free speech and recognizes the rights of others and their ability to stand for what they deem to be an injustice, even if it means going against the status quo.

We often chartise the young people for their deviant behaviour. When they are involved in wholesome activities,we, the adults, should give them maximum support. The conditions of the ground or weather were not that ominous to prevent the students from displaying what they had learnt from their long hours of practice. They marched and not a single mishap. This is yet another reason to soundly reject Skerrit and his parasitic poodles at the polls. Not even the young escapes Skerrit’s ultra selfish and lying ways. Dominicans need to unknot the noose he has around their necks at the polls.

Can you please help your leader for once to recognise the seriousness of the position for which he is competing? You cannot go around supporting everything this gentleman does and says whether it defies logic or not and then curse out Skerrit supporters for doing the same.

You people are not helping the man. In my view he looked pathetic and utterly desperate, if not comical. If you all keep up with that, it might well be his first and last act of taking a salute so perhaps he was right to grab the opportunity.

Ibo, remember your leader’s call to the same young people to boycott the Youth Rally in 2013 I think it was. What was the connection then with something Skerrit had done wrong that you are now fishing for?

I wonder who has the noose and around whose neck it is?

For me, if both leaders are flawed, I think I need to go with the one who seems to be showing some capacity to bring development to the country. I’m totally fed up with you “poodles” in waiting.

When you sow into the wind you catch the whirlwind. A parent is entitled to tell their child no. It would be out of place for another parent to step in and say yes.
Civil society is kept together by certain rules of engagement such as laws and the respect for authority. It was the Ministry’s call to cancel the march past. The decision never doubt was not made lightly but it was in the interests of the children some of whom would’ve had to travel some distance had a deluge fallen and wet them while marching.
By doing as he did Mr Linton has shown shortsightedness and a tunnel view of what is the right thing to do. He also made a clown 🤡 of himself because of his subsequent portrayal on social media. He fanned defiance of a legitimate directive of government.
How can he seek to lead a government and country if this is a measure of what is to be expected of his management style.

So, here is the definition of the term ” World Wind;” it is any of several relatively small masses of air rotating rapidly around a more or less vertical axis and advancing simultaneously over land or sea, as a dust devil, tornado, or waterspout.

Anything resembling a whirlwind, as in violent action or destructive force; any circling rush or violent onward course.

Linton and the uwp are riding the wave of defiance. This regressive group want to return to the radicalism of the sixties and seventies. They think it will get rid of the Skerrit Administration just like opposition forces got rid of the Leblanc and John Administrations. They want Dominica to reverse 41 years backwards.
Defiance will only get them expelled and deported from the political arena. Expelled like defiant kids who refuse to grow up and leave their bad habits and childish behavior at home, and deported like trouble makers who refuse to conform to social norms in this enlightened and civilized time. Their goal is to plunge Dominica into darkness.
I cant see any socioeconomic policies for advancements in their misbehavior. They need to be sent to a juvenile camp for rehabilitation.
No one is convinced that they are the model adults for the next generation to follow. No way have they shown any competence to make Dominica a better place. All we get from them is noise.

      Dear Mr. Herbert Volney,
When Rosa Parks refused to surrender her seat to a white passenger on a segregated bus in Montgomery, wasn’t that an act of defiance and disrespect for authority?
When Harriet Tubman escaped as a slave and helped other slaves escape wasn’t that an act of defiance and disrespect for authority?
When Martin Luther King stood up for oppression against blacks against segregation and racism in an all-white controlled system, wasn’t that an act of defiance and disrespect for authority?
When the Negre Mawon chiefs such as Balla, Congo Ray and Jacko fought against oppression in Dominica, wasn’t that an act of defiance and disrespect for authority?
      How are they remembered now???????
We should teach our children to challenge our leaders and not blindly follow like fools. Lennox, in his unmatched wisdom, recognized that our children felt disenfranchised by the actions of our so call leaders, and, in an act of defiance he stood with them when no one else would.

      • November 6, 2019

@Jack Sparrow, the people you mentioned above, did not belong to the authority, which Lennox Linton is vying for–which is the Prime Minister’s seat.

It is not to say that people do not have the right to disobey or disrespect those who are above them, but they have to know their place through that defiance.

Lennox is presently, the Leader of the Opposition, his etiquette should be demonstrating that character in him.

Any other of his team could do what he did–just like those you mentioned above, but not Lennox Linton, because of the role he is vying for, why can’t you people see that?

Lennox claimed that the conduct of the students’ “disrespect” and “disobedience” against the Authority of the Land “inspired” him; so what does that mean?

He wants to be the primary leader of Government, how can he accept people or persons who defied the command of one of his ministry, “inspirational” to his mind?

Come on man, you people, think about this!

My goodness, there can be only one Prime Minister at a time. The man’s anxiety is now overpowering his common sense. What he does not understand is that if he conducts himself with intelligence and statesmanship he could very well get a chance at the pie.
So what is he saying, if there is an incident at the opening of Parliament and the President decides to call off the inspection of the platoons (not sure what the military name of that is) Mr. Linton should step in and do the honours because the Police have practised?

Liz, Linton is just the tip of the problem. The fundamental problem is the people who are following him and cheering him on. These are educated people with first and postgraduate degrees. These people are trying to show our children and the next generation to accept this example as civil behavior.
I wonder how many of them are going to teach their children to hold Linton and co as models, as good examples to follow.
If by some ill wind they get into power Dominica is finished with no chance of recovery.
A lot of them are old enough to realized that Dominica was put in the doldrums from May 79 and has made great strides with the Skerrit Administration. We are at the threshold of development for the first time to break out of the cycle of persistent poverty.

I am thinking about the man in the Bible who was so demon-possessed, he told Jesus that his name was Legion, meaning many.

Of course, they had no choice of surrendering because Jesus knew who they were.

So those demons in the man told Jesus to send them into a swine of pigs that were around, little did they know that the pigs would run into the lake and drown themselves

My point? The devil is the enemy who wants the glory which we should give to God. But what that devil does not know is that he will get nothing more than “humiliation”–at God’s appointed time.

All I will say to you is the following:
      Malcolm X
      Martin Luter King
      Rosa Parks
      Harriette Tubman
      Ruby Bridges
      Nelson Mandella
      Mahatma Gandhi
      Balla
      Congo Ray
      Jacko
      Bussa
      and finally Lennox Linton.
I am totally inspired by everyone above.
So put that in your pipe and smoke it.

      • November 6, 2019

And what was the fate of all of those people whom you mentioned above?

It is also very “childish” to compare “Lennox Linton” with any of those people above; even with the nerves to call him finally. Say what!!!!!

Lennox Linton’s claim that he is fighting for the people of Dominica, so why are we, the majority against that fight of his?

It is because he is not fighting for no one, except for his own “selfish ego”

Lennox would like to have the people of Dominica bowing before him–and to give him the power to the wicked things which he has planned in his mind, but with God, “that is impossible”!

It is a free country and that is what democracy is about. You can be inspired by anyone you choose, even a Jack……

The only thing you and your friends need to remember is that every other Domincan has the same right.

Remove linton and insert E O Leblanc. Then you have a better liberators monument. In ten years Skerrit will qualify on the list for economic liberation.

“he wanted to show support for the students”.

Of course, you would; for it is a practice of yours.

By doing so, you encouraged the children/youths to stand against the Law, whenever it is applied to them.

One thing I know is that those children/youths of today, will be the adults of tomorrow, they will be reaping the fruits of the seeds which the sowed.

One of those seeds is “respect”, which must be “earned” not “granted”.

With people like you, influencing them to grow into the character of disobedience and disrespect– even against the authority, I hope you all will teach them how to overcome their fruits of failure, just as it is happening to all of you, today.

“He said it was very inspiring– looking at young children being independent in mind and spirit.

Of course, it would be inspiring for you; that is what you would like the rest of us to do.

I hope you know that “mind” can be carnal and “spirit” can be plagued by darkness.

“By doing so, you encouraged the children/youths to stand against the Law, whenever it is applied to them. “Elizabeth Xavier).

But, but, but; are you that trouble maker (der) not tired of talking about things that you do not know!

Since when there is a tabled penal code (law) in Dominica which states that college students and high school student cannot march because a dictator and one of his puppets said the people cannot march?

Lady, although Dominica’s State college is a two year institution, I am sure the students attend there are 18 years and older.

At 18 years old they are grown adults capable of deciding for themselves: Wen I was child, in Wesley we could not wait for it to rain for us to go out and play in the rain, bath in the rain as a matter of fact!

What happens when we go on our parents plantations, getting wet all day; do we get soggy?

Anway Dominica have winter, thanksgiving and now sogginess!

Liz, those guys want to tarnish Dominica’s image as an unsafe and unhappy place. They could not accept that we could have such a celebration for such duration without incidence and violence.
They know the eyes of the world are upon us so they had to make something happen to make Dominica look bad. Well they are the ones looking bad.
They talk of a united front during the Independence Holiday to make our 41st envious, but by their actions all can see their usual duplicity. Like we say actions speak louder than words. Like the old song goes, don’t tell me show me.
Linton and co claim that they are standing with the kids. Who do they think they are fooling. Like they stood with us when we were in need re Mathew, Erica and Maria. Amazingly many people from all over, some total strangers, stood with us but Linton and co was a no show, were no shows. But no worries , those trouble makers will bring
down the wrath of social justice on themselves and will self destruct.

God forbid one of those kids would have broken an ankle marching on that soggy ground … What would he have had to say then?. Good leadership is not just about your response to adversity.. but how you manage the risk of that adversity in the first place. I would have put ‘could do better’ on the report card for him.

What can we say of a person who always thinks of himself alone. LL stated, no matter the conditions of the weather! isn’t that pure pure selfishness, do you have the safety and well-being of the students in mind or you saw an opportunity for you to be in the limelight and you spontaneously became the clown 🤡 of the occasion! How can you embarrass yourself, your party and most of all 🇩🇲. This isn’t the first time such reckless behavior has occurred. You also embarrassed yourself and impersonated other people to get to a meeting in Guyana. After plagiarism of the St. Lucian PM speech, he disinvited you to his inauguration. There are so many inconsistencies about your erratic behavior, I don’t know how the moderates and intellectuals could allow you to be their leader. There are valves that matters to the public, Mr. Francis has been charged with crimes, yet you are portraying his as a family man. Where’s your moral values LL? Isn’t shameful in your conduct code?

The problem with Lennox, Joshua Francis and the UWP on a whole is that they cannot differentiate between adults and children. They should know that responsible adults are supposed to guide children to make responsible choices/decisions. What Mr Linton did at the youth rally was not guiding them to make a responsible choice/decision but rather encouraging indiscipline.
The fact that Linton is seen courting Francis in public considering the allegations made against him, says a lot about his ability and discretion. I recall Mr Skerrit sacking the guy from the Labour party that was involved in this controversy but Linton did the opposite with Joshua. What does that say about Linton as a Leader? The best way for people in Joshua’s constituency to show their disapproval of his and Linton’s behavior is to give him the boot at the upcoming election.

Linton and co are good at putting people in harms way. Remember the crabback fiasco. See how he constantly taunt the police then tell people the police cannot touch them. He wants people to believe like they have a right to behave badly. See how he led two educated men, a lawyer and a Phd graduate to Guyana where they could have been arrested for terrorism. They almost faced a swat team

As children we were taught that there is a wrong way and a right way to object or to make a positive contribution. Linton and co do not know the right way to do anything.
We are taught that good behavior depends on common sense and self control. Linton and co have no common sense or self control.
Their infantile behavior resemble that of 3rd graders, i e eight year olds, or worst.
How can someone not see that it is wrong to motivate children to be rude , disobedient and defiant. How can he not see that it is wrong to execute this fake salute. He appeared to be wiping sweat from his forehead and scratching himself at the same time, in public. Way ,way , way papa.

Whooaa Hon Linton We are proud of you. This is the kind of leadership and action that we want to see of our government leaders. Hon Linton has shown example, action, leadership and maturity on this matter to promptly make that decision as our “children comes first” and not politics. Those who walked out have no sense of decorum, patience and loyalty to have turned their backs on these young people who wish to look up at leaders conduct in the most civil and appropriate manner.
Hon Linton, you have demonstrated that you are a disciplined man who stands out, observe and then able to make a decision within minutes that the students will now understand the importance of state`s leadership and good governance. We look forward to you Hon Linton as Prime Minister of our Dominica with your ably supported UWP Team.
This is a bold message that you sent out to our children, their parents and people overseas that we have people of honesty and leadership (Not Skerrit) to manage our Domininca…

I don’t know what all the hoopla and bickering is about A thoughtful, careful, and healthful decision, was made by whomever called off the march pass. It was raining and they were concerned about the health and well being of the students. Sounds good to me.

That said, I HIGHLY commend and respect Lenox Linton for standing in the gap. What was he supposed to do? Should he ignore the students while they march? Should they salute and no one salute them in return? He was the highest ranking official and stepped in to honor the students. I,personally, see nothing wrong with that. Why does he have to defend his actions? What is wrong with the world? What is wrong with people? In the near future, Dominicans will have to pay to simply exist? Well done, Lenox Linton. Period.

Lin Clown, the other side of your view is that DNO is exposing their dumbness for the world to see. Their notorious record label them as the worst political group in Dominica in the Caribbean or even in the world.
It is obvious that they are selectively bias. For example the usually post doctored/photoshopped pictures of Linton to make him look presentable, but look at the saluting picture of the missing link.

ADMIN: Why are you saying that we usually post doctored photos?

There was only one photo released of Lennox in New York that you insist was doctored/photoshopped which you haven’t provided any evidence to support your claim.

Let every person be in subjection to the superior authorities, for there is no authority except by God; the existing authorities stand placed in their relative positions by God. Therefore, whoever opposes the authority has taken a stand against the arrangement of God; those who have taken a stand against it will bring judgment against themselves. (Romand 13:1, 2) So, no matter how individuals feel about the decision to cancel the marching, the decision to go ahead by some is outright defiance. It’s not a talent show. Think about yourself as a leader at home, school, work or in the community. How would you feel if your subordinates were to defy your decision because of mere feelings? Let’s not promote disrespect for authority.

Ok, you continue submitting to a dictator and thief, I’m sure you have your reasons for doing so. But you will forgive me for standing for my freedom and for the future of Dominica, free of political Scharlatans, corrupt government officials and lying prime ministers. Dominica has NO future with Skerrit at his helm!
