Linton resigns as president of United Workers Party

Lennox Linton has resigned as president of the United Workers’ Party (UWP), Dominica News Online (DNO) has confirmed.

Information provided to DNO indicates that Linton submitted his resignation letter yesterday.

While the reasons behind his departure have not yet been disclosed, the move marks a notable shift in the leadership of Dominica’s main  opposition party. Party sources told DNO that Linton’s resignation as president does not signal his departure from the United Workers’ Party, and that he remains committed to supporting the party’s continued growth and development.

Linton was first elected political leader of the UWP in September 2013 and went on to secure a parliamentary seat for the Marigot Constituency in December 2014. He held the position of Leader of the Opposition from 2014 until 2022 and served as the Marigot MP until that same year, when the UWP opted not to contest a snap general election held on December 6. Linton had previously stepped down as UWP political leader in October 2022 but remained active within the party’s executive.

Over the course of his political career, Linton has been a vocal advocate for transparency, accountability, and good democratic governance.

A resignation has an impact only if the non-resignation actually had an impact. Linton was already a mere figurehead. In the UWPwee, he moved from being the Great White Hope in 2014 when he was crowned to being loathed and despised by his followers as an abject failure. In the end, all he has is a dwindling core of loudmouthed, uncouth, and unnecessarily aggressive supporters. He has NO record of working for and on behalf of Dominica, neither as private citizen or as politician. None! When our backs were against the wall, all he offered was political mischief through half-truths, untruths, and deliberate mind-bending. So, an inconsequential resignation. Who gives a flying rat’s behind?

      @Putin
It’s a buffoonic comment to say that honourable Linton has no record of working for Dominica.
Do you know what it is to work? You are simply a pinheaded fool. Well he forced Skerrit, Dominica’s LAZIEST Prime Minister, to return BOBOL money to the treasury. That was on your behalf, thousands of $$$”$’. You benefitted from it. He exposed Skerrit CBI questionable deals so much that Skerrit was forced to say that he will provide the accounting for missing monies. Can Skerrit do that? He exposed Skerrit as having an ownership interest in the famous/infamous villas up north, Skerrit was even surmoned to appear before our real IPO. Skerrit disbanded the IPO insted.
So you accomplished pin headed buffoon, when you have nothing to say just shut up. Here on DNO, its not a crowd of Laourites you are addressing.

As I said before, when Mr Linton resigned abruptly as party leader and the reasons he he gave in my opinion Mr Linton should never be allowed to be made president of the party. Then when Mr Parris challenged the leadership of Dr Fontaine and after losing his bid it was bad again to make Mr Parris the deputy leader of the same leader he felt was not good. Then to make things worse the UWP continued to make terrible decisions by making Spags John, who is a top ally of Mr Linton and not a supporter of Dr Fontaine, the deputy leader of the party. The party is just chasing people from the party to ensure that they find a way to make Mr leader party leader again. For the sake of the party Mr Linton, Spags, Lugay, Seeker in particular should all retire from politics and allow the party to breathe again

Thank you for your unblemished service to country sir. History will definitely be kind to you and Ma Dominique’s children will be eternally grateful. There is a time when we must all call it quits and make way for others especially the younger ones. However, I still see a powerful position for you in the next UWP administration and look forward to your continued fight for what is right. Long live LL the great!

    Take a bow!!!!

In as much as i like honourable Linton for his gift of the gab, his sharp mental acuity, and his strident advocy against the corrupt activities of the DLP, i don’t think that the move is a bad one. ITS A GOOD MOVE!!!! This will hopefully give Dr Fontaine more latitude to operate as leader of the party, and to direct the path that the party should take in preparing for the next general election.
Well done honourable Linton. You have served well.
Dr Fontaine must now know that i wont behave like labourittes do, WITH A SEALED MOUTH.
I shall criticize him when he deserves it.

“Corrupt acts,” for which up to today he cannot show you an iota of proof that can stand up to scrutiny. Not a shred! All he has offered you and his followers is a hot mix of suspicion, innuendos, flawed logic, and disinformation. In other words, he abused your faith in him and went on a rampage on your cognitive ability.

Now, did you say something about his “mental acuity?”

If you were not an idiot, the evidence that stands out in your face you would have long be able to see and identify!
One of the first sign, evidence you missed is his personal wealth of Roosevelt.
If you were not a dumb idiot, you would ask yourself how can his overall assets, in property Real Property (as in house and land, and money in foreign banks) exceeds the amount of money he has earned since becoming prime minister!
It might be difficult for the uneducated like you to calculate, but if Dominica was a place where most of you don’t know the meaning of the word honest: by the time the nation found out about the trash bin fraud (commonly referred to as “bobboll” ) where hundreds of thousands of dollars were stolen and the evidence tracked and traced back into the pockets of the perpetrators of the theft!
It the the judiciary was not corrupt, prime minister or any other thief’s would be living in jail.
He boasted he’s the richest prime minister in the Caribbean: Dominica…
