Lions’ Club of Dominica supports three students at beginning of new school year

During the back-to-school period, many children look forward to the start of a new academic year. However, according to the Lion’s Club of Dominica, for families facing financial difficulties, the rising costs of school supplies can create additional stress and uncertainty. In response, the club announced that it has stepped in to support three students by providing them with the necessary resources to begin their school year confidently.

A press release shared that the organization’s annual Back-to-School Drive, supported by its members, distributed backpacks filled with essential school supplies and school shoes to students from various communities.

Lion’s Club reports that Sherwanie, a third-grade student, received a backpack stocked with supplies to help him prepare for the upcoming term. His teacher noted that students like Sherwanie tend to be more engaged when they arrive at school equipped with the necessary materials.

Dario, also in third grade, was provided with supplies to help him take notes and stay organized. Both Sherwanie and Dario were recommended by their teacher, who recognized their potential but understood that access to school supplies was limited for them, said the club.

Hubert, a sixth-grade student, was reportedly especially appreciative of the school supplies and shoes he received, which will help him start his final year of primary school ready to excel and make his parents proud.

“Every child deserves the chance to walk into school confident and ready to learn,” remarked Janice Hypolite, president of the Lions Club of Dominica. “Something as simple as a backpack filled with supplies can ease the burden on families and give students the start they deserve”.

The Lions Club of Dominica says it plans to continue supporting local children throughout the year through various programs aimed at removing barriers to education. Community members are encouraged to participate by making donations and volunteering.
