LIVE: World Environment Day cleanup at Rockaway beach by new NATURE group

The newly formed Networking Action Teamwork-United to Restore the Environment (NATURE) in collaboration with the Dominica Solid Waste Management Cooperation’s “Clean-A-Mile” campaign has undertaken a beach clean up of Rockaway beach for World Environment Day 2021.

The project entails much more than beach clean up, including improving beach access, parking and public furniture to enhance usage.

The group has gone as far as testing the seawater quality via Bureau of Standards and the results confirmed that the water meets the international standards for sea bathing.

  1. There are laws

Wow good initiative. Someone mentioned key words here “laws & bite”. Speaking of pollution you’ve seen what happens with the well written Noise Abatement Act, people even have 3000 and 6000 watts Amplifiers, with volume pumped to 11 in the middle of neighborhoods and next door to police stations, almost in the police station. Their thinking is, what’s a bunch of plastic that won’t rot in 300 years or disturbing several neighbors peace, so they pollute our air and water without a care.

    Congratulation to this great initiative.
I have long been advocating that all our Waters,
especially our RIVERS should be tested to find out if they meet the International standards. In a recent conversation with an authority of our only water Company I was told that our Rivers are tested once a year to certify the quality of our bathing water.
I am looking forward to NATURE Adopting the Rock Away Beach and giving it the “life” it once had.

Great idea. We need to protect and embrace the environment.

Can something similar be undertaken to clear some of our disappearing rivers of weeds/grass/trees etc? The river flowing through the CAPITAL Roseau especially. Many rivers no longer have water flowing through them as a result

    Good Initiative
I believe there should already be laws in place re indiscriminate disposal of waste in or around our waterways and beaches. I think that those responsible for the enforcemdnt of those laws, must see to it that those laws “bite” those who wantonly pollute, litter or contaminate our beaches or waterways.

A sustainable educational programme should be included to ensure that this well needed initiative does not disintegrate as what happened to so many similar ones. Commendable!
