As part of Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) the Dominica Youth Business Trust (DYBT) hosted its annual Trade Show/ exhibition dubbed, ‘Locally Crafted’ which gave a number of local entrepreneurs the opportunity to showcase their products.
The activity took place on the ground floor of the Government Headquarters on Friday.
Entrepreneurs displayed products such as locally made punches, soaps, honey, crafts, oils, fruit arrangements among others.
“So essentially, we want to foster an environment or ecosystem here in Dominica that promotes entrepreneurship, because entrepreneurship is what will boost our economy,“ Enterprise Development Officer at Dominica Youth Business Trust (DYBT), Julie-Ann Charles told Dominica News Online (DNO) during an interview.
She continued, “They are the ones who create employment; they are the ones who give back to our communities for sustainable development.”
According to Charles, the forum was meant to provide access to persons, especially those in the rural areas who may not have much exposure to free markets within Roseau and environs.
She said schools in Roseau were also invited to view the exhibits and also to expose them to entrepreneurship, “And let them see that they too can become entrepreneurs and just give them the exposure to see what is done within their country.”
“That provides them with an opportunity as well to develop their own ideas as they study business…,” Charles stated.
She called on the general public to continue to support entrepreneurship.
This is the third expo of its kind, an initiative of the Kauffman Foundation and Enterprise UK. It is promoted by the Youth Business International (YBI) network of which the DYBT is a member.
GEW will be observed in over fifty countries across the globe from November 14th to 18th, 2022.
GEW is the world’s largest celebration of the innovators & job creators who launch startups that bring ideas to life, drive economic growth, and expand human welfare.
This year’s theme “Cultivating an Entrepreneurial Ecosystem for Inclusivity” calls for a more active focus on building resources, programs, and practices that will support greater diversity within the venture capital industry.
