Nadjae Shillingford receives scholarship cheque

In a heartfelt homage to the late Ms. Evelina Baptiste, the Kertist A. Augustus Foundation conducted its annual scholarship presentation on Friday, August 29, celebrating academic achievement and community service. The event took place at the Waterfront Allied Workers Union Headquarters.

Ms Baptiste had served as a former President of the Dominica Chapter of the foundation before her passing.

This year’s scholarship recipient was Nadjae Shillingford, described in a press statement as “a dedicated student pursuing Paralegal Studies at Dominica State College.”

Her impressive academic record and dedication to her field embody the qualities the foundation aims to encourage and support, said the release.

Expressing pride in continuing Ms. Baptiste’s legacy, Ms. Frederica Riley, the current President of the Dominica Chapter, stated,”We are proud to continue Ms. Baptiste’s legacy through supporting talented students like Nadjae who demonstrate exceptional promise in their field.”

At the ceremony, Ms. Riley awarded Ms. Shillingford the Foundation’s Certificate of Achievement, while Mrs. Celia Nicholas presented the scholarship check. Mrs. Nicholas remarked, “As I stand here today, presenting this scholarship in memory of Ms. Evelina Baptiste, I am reminded that her greatest legacy wasn’t just her leadership, but her  unwavering belief in empowering the next generation. Nadjae, you embody the very spirit of excellence and dedication that Ms. Baptiste worked tirelessly to foster in our community. May this recognition inspire you to reach even greater heights in your pursuit of justice through legal studies.”

According to the Foundation, this gesture serves to connect its past leadership with its future aspirations, emphasizing its ongoing dedication to educational excellence within Dominica.

The recipient, Nadjae Shillingford, expressed her gratitude for the award, stating, “This scholarship is more than just financial support. It is a symbol of encouragement, perseverance and excellence. I am humbled to be recognized in this way and intend to carry forward the values of hard work, leadership and service to the community this award represents.”
